Wheeeee!

I have a new home!

It's so beautiful. I can't wait to take pictures and show you all. :) It's a large studio apartment right across from the canal (the complex has it's own boat dock) and about 15 minutes walk from the beach. There are 16 flats on two floors, with a gorgeous courtyard in the middle, with palm fronds and lounge chairs and a barbeque, which I'm sure will be used alot in the summer. It's only 5 minutes walk from very trendy 2nd Street, which has fantastic restaurants, funky shops and a 24 hour cafe (and doughnut place!). My flat is on the second floor and has the coolest retro 50's style kitchen, and is actually quite roomy for a studio. I'm really happy about finding such an amazing place, I know it'll make living here alot easier. Who knows, I might even make a few friends! *grins*

I move in 1 June. I think I'm excited. :)

I spent time with my aunt on friday, who reminded me just how Jewish my family really is -- she made simmus and kogel (and served gefilte fish for starters) for shabat dinner, and complained about every ailment she was having in a most stereotypical manner. But it did make me feel rather sad that I haven't had a proper Passover or celebrated any holidays in a long time. I think the last was a ceder with the Jewish society at university 5 years ago. Eeep. I'm not religious (obviously) but being Jewish isn't so much a religion as a culture (or state of mind ;-) and sometimes I feel like I'm really missing out on alot when I don't do these things.

Last night I saw A Mighty Wind and laughed so hard I nearly wet myself. *lol* THIS MOVIE IS BRILLIANT AND EVERYONE SHOULD SEE IT RIGHT AWAY. So there. *grins impishly* Apart from the fantastic humour, I was really blown away by the accuracy and believability of the music -- I'm a big fan of all kinds of folk music, and I was amazed by how real all the music in the film was. If you didn't know the film was supposed to be a loving parody, you'd swear that these tunes were authentic 1960's folk. This film rules. Wheeee!

Happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] bluerhapsody, and [livejournal.com profile] water_vole, your special magazine is in the post and should be with you soon. :)

I'm off to eat dinner at an 'authentic' Irish pub-restaurant (*snort*), which will probably make me very homesick, and not just because the Guinness will be served sodding cold. ;-)
