Happy 3rd birthday journal!
May. 2nd, 2005 05:05 pmCongratulations, Nevvie's journal -- you've passed the Terrible Twos and are now edging ever closer to adulthood. *grins*
I was on the radio today! At the end of the 'Totally 80's' hour on a local station the DJ asked for people to call in and review The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, because it was number one at the box office this weekend (WE'RE #1! WE'RE #1! WOOOHOOOOO!!), so I did. And I was on the air! Now if only they had given me $1,000 for my excellent review...*giggles* (I can not believe that's what I sound like. Do I really sound like a 12 year old on helium? *laughs*)
There were a great many things I enjoyed about the film, a few that were not so brilliant, and one 'WTF!?' plot hole that drove me crazy. However, all I will say about the film is this: Nevvie + MartinFreemanasArthur = FOREVER. :)
Also: DIEAMERICANTRILLIANDIIIIIIIIIIIIE. God damn I hated her. (She was one whole ju-ju flop situation, full of Belgium and other horrific things. Bleaugh.) Okayokay, one more thing: I worship Stephen Fry. But of course we all knew that already. *grins*
I think Douglas would have been proud. Especially of the beginning. Hee. :)
This has been an amazing week for license plates. No, seriously. ALLEGRO, BONDIGE, EE MC2, and best of all, a frame holder that said 'MAURADERS: MOONEY PADFOOT WORMTAIL AND PRONGS'. *squee!* I definitely need to make a nifty and utterly geekalicious frame for my car, but what fandom to choose? Perhaps something from LOTR, or maybe one of my favourite Oscar Wilde quotes, like 'Only dull people are brilliant at breakfast' (so very true). Any suggestions my lovely friends?
Last week I spent a few delightful hours with darling
fyrie, whom I met at
ashfae's wedding, and had the best time chatting, giggling, playing LOTR trivial pursuit, and generally being outrageously bouncy and squeeful. She introduced me to new friend
collie, who lives not to far away and works at the Renaissance Faire as a piratey wench, arrrr. She also has more friends than I've had in my entire life (although that's quite easy, really *small sigh*); every few minutes someone new would come by, it was quite intimidating being around someone so popular. *G* I hope I can visit her at the Ren Faire soon, I just need a bodice to complete my tavern wench-type ensemble. Please feel free to send me one. Preferably in green. ;-)
And finally, a very important note:
Dear Nevvie,
Please stop crying over fictional characters. You do not need to break down into agonizing sobs when your favourite anime character dies. Especially if you've seen the series a dozen times already. You're beginning to scare the neighbours. Seriously, cut it out. People will begin to worry about your sanity. If they haven't already.
Love,
Me :)
PS -- NEW FAMILY OMG SQUEEEEEEEEE!!!! *happiness pie*

I rather like the Wilde quote. Very witty. If I come up with any great ideas, I'll be sure to push them on you

Date: 2005-05-02 09:52 pm (UTC)Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy was good, not the book, but good. And I agree, Trillian got on my NERVES!!! But I loved the so long and thanks for all the fish. And Alan Rickman as Marvin!!! ^___^ YAY! *dances for Nevvie and MartinFreemanasArthur FOREVAH!!!!!!!*
NEVVIE!!! *whines* You spelled Moony wrong! ... Sorry, I'm rather obsessive over Remus Lupin in the books. CAN'T WAIT TILL BOOK 6!! SQUEEE!!!!!!!!!!! ^________________________________________^
I like the Oscar Wilde quote. Use it! ^_______^ Bwahahahahaha!
And Finally we all cry our eyes out over fictional characters. Especially Sirius, but she didn't say he died! He FELL THROUGH THE VEIL!!! She's going to bring him back! I know it, and then he and Remus will announce to everyone that they've loved each other since 5th year and...*rambles on for another day or so*

Date: 2005-05-02 10:05 pm (UTC)*laughs* Yes indeed, I am the Updatinator! *flashes shiny gun thingy* :D
I cry so hard over fictional characters it frightens me. Whether in books or on tv, I can't stop myself, I just go to pieces. I nearly threw the book on the ground and wailed when Sirius went throught the veil. Oh, the ANGST!
and oh, how we love it ;-)

Date: 2005-05-03 03:33 am (UTC)Wasn't Hitchhiker's so much fun? I loved the Vorgons and the wonderfully done pot of petunias and the whale. I'd have been so annoyed if they didn't add that. I really did miss the, "Ford, you're turning into a penguin. Stop it." quote though. Ford and Arthur are really slashy too.

Date: 2005-05-03 04:24 pm (UTC)PLEASE tell me you are joking. Sure, he's no Simon Jones, who is perfection onna shiny pogo stick, but Martin was utterly adorable and clueless
and omg so sexy in those green and purple pjs, mmmmmmmmas Arthur!Zoey was just so...American and BLAH, she bored me to tears -- where was the spunky astrophysicist? She had no charisma. Thankfully Sam Rockwell had LOTS of it. Heh.
Oh yes, the beginning was the best part. LOVE THOSE SINGING DOLPHINS! *squee* :D

I am so ashamed of myself for weeping copiously at his tragic demise. I wrapped myself in my blanket and couldn't stop shaking for at least 10 minutes. I AM SUCH A DORK OMG *laughs*
Why do I always fall in love with the ones who are destined to die? *clutches Hughes and Folken and Nuriiiiko-chan* *sniff*

They were frighteningly slashy. But then, they always are. *giggles at drunken FordandArthur trying to escape earth of the past* So cute. :)

Date: 2005-05-03 04:36 pm (UTC)YES! I did love the sofa bit. Arthur is such a dashing and attractive settee, don't you think? ;-)
I was so disappointed when Arthur didn't do the entire 'stuck inna file cabinet at the bottom of a disused lavaratory' speech. Or just little one liners like the Vogon captain saying 'I've just had an unhappy love affair, so I don't see why anyone else should have a good time', or 'It's times like this, when I'm trapped in an airlock with a man from betelgeuse about to be hurled into space lightyears away from the smoking remains of the earth that I really wish I would have listened to my mother when I was young' 'What did she say?' 'I don't know, I didn't listen!'
Heh, I could carry on doing this all day. *chuckles*

Date: 2005-05-03 04:40 pm (UTC)Also, Douglas couldn't write women, so all the best interaction is between the boys, so it's only natural they would appear quite 'close'. ;-)
Poor Arthur. Don't you just want to cuddle him and make everything better? Or is that just me. *giggles*

Date: 2005-05-03 04:43 pm (UTC)Eeeeeeeeep I don't want it to end!

My Nuriko-sama shall never die! We will live together in blissful happiness, surrounded by hot men who want nothing more than to make us happy. I know this to be true. *nods seriously*

Date: 2005-05-04 12:19 am (UTC)Anyway, Trillian didn't strike me as excessively American at all, and I thought she looked exactly right, much better than she appeared in my head. I really think most of your problems with her are actually with the script more than the actress.
The one who annoyed my was Zaphod. Rockwell was great, but why does everyone assume Zaphod is stupid? He's not, it's just that he's self-absorbed and reckless and irritating and those traits combined make a number of people assume he's stupid. This one actually was stupid, though. Wah!
Movie still great, though. Douglas Adams would so have come up with the POV gun.

Date: 2005-05-04 08:23 am (UTC)I am a bit in love with you. And there was this vague explanation of how he had to cut out part of his brain to be president, but it wasn't really covered in any way that made any sense. The whole point of Zaphod removing part of his brain was that he did actually have a dissenting section of his mind that he had to remove to become President. This just made out that he had an asshole part of his brain that he needed to hide under his neck. And if he wasn't using that brain most of the time anyway, why'd he get so much stupider once it was removed? It was just... ack.
Zaphod's not an idiot, as much as he sometimes pretends to be. He's just this guy, y'know?

Date: 2005-05-04 08:30 am (UTC)But, yeah, this incarnation of Trillian was probably the most fully fleshed-out we've seen her outside the books. And she was clearly spunky - she went to a party dressed as Darwin! She wanted to get out there and adventure! She didn't take any of Arthur's wishy-washy crap! Admittedly, she started getting all girly-whingey as the film progressed, but that was more because of the whole love triangle of bad.
Whereas Arthur spent barely any time wishing for a cup of tea and far too much time being a lovesick puppy over Trillian. Which just ain't my Arthur, dagnabbit!
(Though, to be fair, I was never going to love an ARthur that wasn't Simon Jones. ;)

Date: 2005-05-04 06:04 pm (UTC)Arthur is not a lovesick puppy for anything but tea, this is very true. I'm having a cuppa right now in honour of our beloved. ;-)

Date: 2005-05-04 06:18 pm (UTC)You're so right, Zaphod isn't stupid (would he be able to use words like 'flummox' if he were? ;-), but I thought Sam's interpretation worked, especially with the cheeky winks and rockstar poses, those were awesome. *giggles*
I'm sure most of my issues with trillian were script related, probably because the 'love triangle of bad'(as
