After months, years of waiting, fretting, stomach-churning anxiety and a whole lot of crying... MY VISA HAS BEEN APPROVED AT LAST OMG OMG FINALLY YAYYYYYYYYYYYY :D :D :D

I'm so ludicrously happy. And RELIEVED. I am pretty much numb except for the overwhelming relief it's finally over, I can relax and get this 16 ton weight off my chest. Well, I still have the next application to be done in two years, and we're still catastrophically poor and in dire need of monetary assistance, BUT at least there's one less area of doom and gloom to afflict us and make me want to fling head first into a volcano. Thank god. ;-)

Thank you for putting up with me, my most wonderful friends. I hope now that something has actually gone right for a change I will be encouraged to continue updating and keep you informed of my rather silly life and all the mundane fripperies it entails. *grins*

So so happy. I LOVE THE UK :D

Ask if he's allowed retrospective Jobseeker's! Because I really think the people that told him no were made of bullshit. =)

And you can get a job!!! Go talk to comic book store woman! ;) (well hey, it'd be awesome) And just start applying and tell people straight out that you'll be gone for two weeks in April, can't hurt to start looking now, ne? Yaaaaaay.

Alas, I think they're not - I did a lot of checking online and all of the govt sites suggest that at present partners of people on fiance visas can't claim benefits.

I suspect given that the CAB gave Nevvie different advice that this may have been a recent change.

It's a bloody *stupid* change, but hey. :-(

Well drat. =( There are some exceptions to the partners-of-people-etc rule (I know we got some help somewhere!), I was hoping that would be one of them.

I think I must have come right after they changed EVERYTHING, because they knew I wanted to be here and decided to make my life as difficult as possible. Grrrr. Arrghhh. >:(

No, Nev. Contrary to what your brain sometimes says, the world does not in fact hate you. *hugs*

Oh, bollocks. :(

I trust your google-fu and knowledge about benefits, so as much as I would like to hope otherwise, I'm sure you're right. SIGH. <3

You should, however, be able to claim at least a discount on council tax if neither of you have a job.

And in the meantime - go register with temp agencies at least, see what they can find you. They're much more flexible about planned holidays and may well find you a week-long placement somewhere.

Even if it says 'No public funds' on my ID card?

I always thought James at least would finally be able to claim benefits once I was legal, this is all so confusing :(

It does seem weird. The one exception I know of is working tax credit - which you can claim if one of you works over 30 hours per week and the other over 16 hours per week.

But council tax definitely gives you a discount for being unemployed, which isn't the same as benefits. They might even be able to backdate that - call them and find out, the worst that can happen is that they say no and nothing changes.
