Happy Canada Day!

Yes, I know I'm not Canadian, but I've just had the best day pretending to be with Aly and Kara (real Canadians from Toronto), and am almost wishing I were!
We wore big floppy Canada hats, Canada stickers on our cheeks, Canada flags sticking out from our coats/bags/hair and Kara even wore a Canadian flag as a cape. *giggles* I could not believe how much people were staring at us! It was absolutely unbelievable, they just stared open mouthed as we passed...it was shocking how rude some people were. Just because we wanted to be a bit patriotic is no reason to treat us like circus freaks! Well, okay, we did look a bit odd. *grins*
We went to a party at the Canadian Embassy next to Trafalgar Square, met some very nice people and oogled the unbelievably pretty Canadian boys. Yum. *G* Then we went to the Maple Leaf pub in Covent Garden - or rather tried to, but it was so unbelievably packed the entire street was sectioned off and filled with people, so we went to the Canada Shop instead and I bought some sweets and delicious root beer, and then we ate dinner and walked around a bit more. Basically we just walked around being silly (as we normally do) but had the added bonus of being wildly patrotic to make us seem even weirder. *laughs*
I'm still wearing my Canada hat and stickers! I look so cute. Go me! :D

I Am Ananse the Spider
Ananse the Spider of African folklore is both wise and foolish in the best tradition of tricksters. If you're like Ananse, you're clever and like to be thought well of, but sometimes you outsmart yourself. You're always trying to figure the best angle and you're intelligent and creative, but you have a crude streak. Still, you like to show off your knowledge and that makes you a good teacher..

You are the most perfect guy ever, handsome, sweet, sensitive, rich, titled, but...

If anyone threatens you, your people, or your homeland,

They're going to pay!

(Eowyn will fall in love with you eventually, so keep your head up cutiez~pie!)

Or... maybe she won't. How about you marry me?

Aragorn may be King and all... but you are way better!

He's kinda a prick, huh? But, he did save you, so we won't kill him.

Hmmm, I've seen some people celebrating Canada Day too.

I remember Anansi the spider! That was a Ghanian fable that my dad used to tell me when I was young.

Ooooh Canada day sounds like fun! :) But I'm with Chrysti, are you going to be American with is on Thursday, when we celebrate our independence by setting fire to things? (heehee) So sad home fireworks are illegal in our state. It would be fun to re-enact the Pippin scene...
"You're supposed to put it in the ground."
"It is in the grrrrround."
"Outside!"
"This was yourrrr idea!"
*swoons over thought of yummy Scottish accent*

I was very proud to be walking around the streets of London dressed as I was.. Canada Day just isn't the same here though.. Nevvie is right... we were being looked at as though we were circus freaks, and i can understand since most people didn't know it was Canada Day, but I was most insulted when Nevvie and I were in a book store and a woman walked up to us and said that she really liked the outfits we were sporting, but she wondered why, because she has a lot of Canadian attire in her wardrobe, but she doesn't normally wear it.. i told her it was Canada Day and she looked slightly embarrassed and said that she had been travelling so much that she didn't even realize that it was and so did not wear any red or white... sad, sorry woman... :( no matter how far you travel, you should never lose sight of what's important... and showing your patriotic side in a foriegn country is a good way to do it... Nevvie, thanks for joining in on the celebrations... it made it all the better.. and you better save some of that yummie rootbeer for when im at your house this weekend... this blasted country doesn't know what they're missing... hehe...

Kara :P
