(no subject)

Yesterday I saw the film version of Chicago. It was better than expected, but still nothing in comparison to the stage show. Everyone was very good, except of course for that squinty eyed toothpick Renee Zellwigger. Every time she was on screen (which was, unfortunately nearly every scene) I cringed and felt like punching something. God, I hate her. I read a terrific article in The Guardian newspaper by a woman who was sickened by the fact that she won a Golden Globe last week, and called her a number of delightfully insulting names, like Mr Magoo and my favourite, an 'insipid chipmunk'. How utterly appropriate. :)
The best performance in the film for me was from Queen Latifah. I really hope this gives her career a boost, because she definitely deserves it. She was a wonderful Mama Morten, and was unbelievably sexy singing 'When You're Good To Mama'. I don't know how she does it -- she's bigger than me but she always looks so gorgeous. It's so unfair! I'd give anything to have her confidence, she's just amazing.

I bought the BBC radio adaptation of Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy, and so far I'm liking it very much. The voices are all very good (except for Lee Scoresby's accent, which is a terribly fake American one), especially Lyra's and Pantalaimon. Pan is SO CUTE, I wasn't expecting him to be so adorable but his voice just makes me want to hug and squish him all day. I wish I had a daemon. *sighs wistfully*
I also found out that the stage version will open at the National Theatre in the summer! Am veryvery excited about it. :)
