I'm ill. :(

I think I either have strep throat or tonsilitis, never of which is very fun. Sigh. Any get well cards (and especially presents) would be most appreciated. :)

I finally saw Moulin Rouge today. Most of you know that I've owned the dvd for months now, but have never watched it, much to the annoyance of my friends who love the film and kept cajoling me to put it on and behold it's magnificence. So what is my verdict? Well, I didn't hate it. *grins* I admire it's audacity, the breathtaking use of sound and colour, the way every frame assaults the senses and forces you not to look away ...but I can't say that I actually liked it. Sorry.
I thought Ewan McGregor was very good, and of course Jim Broadbent can always be relied on to entertain, but other than that, I found the costumes to be more thought provoking than any of the performances. And I couldn't stand Nicole Kidman's singing voice. Ugh. And while I'm pleased that Moulin succeeded where A Knight's Tale failed abysmally in using contemporay songs to tell a story, I still don't like it very much. I guess I'm just a musical traditionalist at heart. *G*
So basically I'm sorry to say that Moulin Rouge will not be joining my list of favourite films. *ducks from the onslaught of rotten tomatoes being thrown at her* ;-)

I also watched the new episode of Buffy (it took 2 days to download from Kazaa this time! Oy vey), and thought it was magnificent, the best one so far. Poor Anya. She's never been one of my favourite characters, but I do love her bunny fixation, and to see what's happened to her is so very sad. It'll all end in tears, I know it. At least they added some brilliant humour at the beginning with a flashback to Anya's life before she became a vengeance daemon -- what a happy Scandanavian housewife she was! Awww, bless. *giggles*

Had a lovely chat with the always wonderful [livejournal.com profile] chrystimd this evening -- and just for the record, I love her the most. *smirks* ;-)

I joined some new communities recently, but I'm not sure if I'll stay with them, as I've already joined 45, which is quite alot from anyone's point of view:

[livejournal.com profile] prettygoodyear -- For fans of the fanfic series. It's the only slash fiction I've read all the way through, and I surprised myself by rather enjoying it. Probably because unlike so much of the genre it focuses on relationships rather than sweatiness, and its quite tender and bittersweet.
[livejournal.com profile] spiner -- For Brent Spiner fans. Hey, [livejournal.com profile] escadevotion! You didn't tell me you had a community! :-P
[livejournal.com profile] janeaustenfans -- Well, that's rather obvious. *G*
[livejournal.com profile] virgo -- Again with the obviousness.
[livejournal.com profile] lostark -- Archaeology/Art History/Mythology devotees.

And please welcome two new friends from Hogwarts Online, [livejournal.com profile] aketchup and [livejournal.com profile] sherrylady! :)

I suppose I should get involved with Harry Potter fanclubs here on LiveJournal, but they all just seem so rubbish. I was looking at the Ravenclaw communities, and was appalled by the lack of intellectual conversation even in the most clever House. Very sad. Ah well. Makes me feel rather smug that I'm such a wicked Ravenclaw professor at HOL. *grins impishly*

I've been listening to alot of Disney music recently, and its made me realize once again just what an amazing talent the world lost when Howard Ashman died. His lyrics are always perfect, whether they are full of wit or move you to tears, he always knew exactly what to say to tell the perfect story through song. I don't know why I'm sharing this really, I just feel a bit sad because he was such a genius, and now he's gone.

And now for something completely different: I'm seeing Michael Palin a week from today! Wooohooooo! :D

Oh yes, I certainly do! *beams proudly*

I met him a few years ago when he did the booktour for Full Circle, and I'm going to have him sign a blown up picture of us together (I think you've probably seen it, I'm pretty sure I posted it in my journal recently), which I think will make me extremely unique, and he'll remember me for a long time afterwards. That's the plan anyway. *giggles*
