Happy Samhain!
Nov. 1st, 2002 12:41 amIt was Halloween today, but I didn't do anything to celebrate. I haven't in ages -- I can't remember the last time I got dressed up, even though I love doing it. I guess I'm too old for trick or treating, and I don't know anyone so I can't go to a party...Ah well. I suppose it doesn't matter, at least not today, because I did something just as fun...
I saw Michael Palin! Wheeeeee!
He lectured for about an hour and a half, talking in detail about his Sahara adventure, then did a brief question and answer session as he was running over time, then the signing. He was even cuter than the last time I saw him 5 years ago (if you can believe it), and just as delightfully whimsical, so charming and entertaining; he really made all 600 people in the audience feel like he was talking only to them, sharing a mischievous little secret between best friends. It was just marvellous. The queue for the signing wasn't very long, as most of the people in the lecture decided not to wait (silly blighters). I had a wonderful question all prepared in my head, planning exactly what to say so I wouldn't freeze up like I usually do -- that's right, I get SHY -- but of course as soon as I was in front of him I started my usual routine of grinning like a madwoman and making squeeee-ing noises, not saying anything, or at least nothing coherent. He signed my first edition Sahara book and a blown up copy of the picture I had taken with him on the Full Circle tour (I posted it before I think), which he liked very much, as I'm sure he doesn't sign very many personal photographs like that, and change is always good. I had another picture taken with him (he held up the photo, so now I'll have double the Palin-goodness in it ;-) and then had to leave.
So that was my Palin Adventure. *grins*
In other news....I finally bought a new winter coat! Hurrah! The saga is ended at last. *giggles*
It's a long, black pea coat that comes down to my ankles and makes me feel like a Bolshevik soldier in it. I think it's the way the buttons and collar are made, it looks quite militaristic. But also a bit vintage and cool. Its much too long, and I keep tripping on it, but who cares! Its warm, comfortable and makes me feel good. Thats all a girl needs. :)
I need tickets to see Sean Bean in Macbeth! And Gillian Anderson in some play that opens next week! *laughs*
Anyone want to come with me? Assuming I can get the tickets o'course. ;-)
*yawn* Listening to your idol yabbering on for a few hours really wears you out. *laughs* Goodnight! :)

Date: 2002-10-31 05:33 pm (UTC)There's another Nevvie?? IMPOSSIBLE!
I even did that Googlism thingy to find other people with your name and what they are like (apparently), and all the answers were ME! (*smug grin*)
I think someone may be impersonating me. It's happened before. What's the link?

Date: 2002-11-01 11:48 am (UTC)I absolutely love his travel documentaries, Pole to Pole being my favourite. I just love the way he makes friends wherever he goes, and is truly respectful of all the different people and cultures on his journey.
He's an amazing man. :)
Oh, and he's unbelievably cute too. *grins*

Date: 2002-11-01 01:19 pm (UTC)Congrats on an end to the coat search! Am in the middle of one myself (not much luck so far), so I know how maddening it can be to search and search andsearchandsearchand... search. ahem, yes. So, a long coat! Those are the best, all swishy and long and fun. ^_^

Date: 2002-11-01 09:38 pm (UTC)I like the sound of your coat! Now I want one just like it! ::runs around stores looking, but to no avail:: Looks like you're the owner of the "one-in-a-million pea coat". Go you! ^~ (A Bolshevik soldier! Haha!)
Ooo! Sean Bean??? MacBeth??? Two of my favorite things! ^~ Can I come, too?? (*sigh* Why do I NOT live in London, WHY?)
--I think I ate too much candy yesterday...

A girl can always dream, ne?
(Hehe, I'm all full of get up and go because I just watched the adorable Sean Astin's "Rudy" for about the millionth time. So sweet! ::tears up:: ::begins chanting: "Rudy! Rudy!"::)

Date: 2002-11-02 01:12 am (UTC)I'll be sending you good vibes in order to get Macbeth tickets!
I went to the annual West Village (NYC) Halloween parade yesterday and I didn't see ONE person dressed up in HP or LotR costumes!!! Can you believe it? I was sort of disappointed...

Thanks for the Vibes, I think I'll need them! :D
You lucky wench you!

Oh, I sooo recognize that! I should really post my convention report from Nexus 2000 in Berlin somewhere..! Can you picture this: little Aquila Malfoy hiding behind a pillar while her friend ( Heureka ) asks Walter Koenig if we can have a photo with him? ( "Either you ask him or I will!" )
Or: little Aquila Malfoy dropping an envelope in front of him at the signing, squeeking "Iwroteyoualetterhopeyouhavetimetoreadit" before disappearing so fast that he probably thought "I had no idea people could achieve Warp speed without a starship..!"?

I'm sure he was thinking no such thing, but if he was, I'm sure he was impressed. ;-)
