Nov. 6th, 2002 01:35 amA big hug and kiss to everyone to cheered me up yesterday, and reminded me that I really need to stop being so paranoid about the way I look. *grins*
I know I'm so silly somtimes, I really do appreciate the way you all put up with me. *hugs all round* :)
And Tanya, if you're reading this -- call me! We definately need to meet up, I miss you girl! *squeeze*
I saw one of my favourite animals on David Attenborough's The Life of Birds tonight -- the wonderous Kakapo.
I've been in love with these poor, adorable creatures for over 10 years, ever since I read about them in Douglas Adams' best and least well known book Last Chance To See. The Kakapo is the world's largest flightless parrot, and lives in New Zealand. They are one of the most endangered species in the world, with only about 70 of them remaining, none of whom live in their original habitat in the fjords on the southern island. They have mottled green-brown plummage and enormous eyes, and are absolutely beautiful. One of the most amazing things about them is that even though they are completely flightless, they seem to have forgotten they can't fly. Kakapos have the amusing (if alarming) habit of climbing up into a tree and leaping off, blissfully unaware that they will not soar into the sky, but plummet to the ground with an enourmous thud. How can you not love such an endearingly hopeless creature? :)
Am very annoyed that I am going to miss seeing Andy Serkis (aka Gollum) at the Two Towers Event in Piccadilly Circus tomorrow because I'll be in rehearsal all afternoon. Grr. I'll try and make it for the lecture from The Art of Lord of the Rings and The LOTR Companion author Brian Sibley in the evening, but I may just miss it, or not get in because of overcrowding. Wish me luck!
I feel like I should join all this NaNoWriMo nonsense just because everyone else I know is doing it, but then I also know that there's no way in hell I would EVER finish a book this month, especially when I can't even finish the paragraph or two needed to complete my lesson for Hogwarts Online. God, I am such a lazyarse. *laughs*
Oooh. Forgot to mention for the benefit of
eyre_lasgalen and
lady_luiniel that I watched Return of the Jedi tonight. Yay Wedge! *cheers for the only X-Wing pilot to survive all three films* :D
Here is another informative questionaire, this time made by
scarletmacaw. Go on, click it! There's new stuff in there, I promise. *grins*
(And remember, I only do FUN quizzes that actually tell you interesting things about the person. So click it, dammit! *glares* *laughs* ;-)
Animals. Pick one.
Only one? Then it would have to be dolphins. (With otters and the charming Kakapo tied for second ;-)
Brothers. Say at least one good thing about yours.
I don't have any brothers.
Crime. Ever been a victim?
Hate crimes, yes.
Dreams. Have a recurring one?
Sometimes. I often have recurring dreams about whatever I'm currently obsessed with at the moment, but most of the time I don't like my dreams, as they're not really dreams at all but remembering the past.
Exam. The last one you took.
Two years ago baby! Goodbye university! :D
Father. Best piece of advice from him.
My father doesn't give advice, just orders.
Grandparents. One fond memory.
Uhmmm. I can't think of any.
Horticulture. Do you like to dig in the dirt?
No, dirt gets you dirty!
Irresistable. Name something irresistable to you.
Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream. *grins*
Job. Ignore salary. What's your dream job?
Well respected actress or Folklorist.
Kiss. First one. Awkward or not?
Vile. *sighs sadly*
Didn't get my first kiss until I was *18*, and it was horrible and sloppy and disgusting. And I loathe the guy for betraying me and generally being a total fuckwit.
Lottery. What would you do if you won?
I'd donate money to Greenpeace and AMFAR and other worthy organizations, then spend the rest on me and my friends. A wonderful vacation, a great house, saving money for the proverbial rainy day...you get the idea.
Mother. Do you think it's hard to be a Mom? Do you think it has been hard for your mother?
Well, I know I will NEVER be a mum, because I would be the worst mother in the world, I have absolutely no patience. I do think that being a parent is bloody hard, and that's why most of them screw up. God knows I would.
I know my mum hasn't had an easy time
Naps. Do you wake up from naps refreshed or depressed?
Neither really, I usually wake up feeling achey and more tired than I was before.
Old. How old is "old" (for a human)?
I honestly don't know.
I do think that an 80 year old man marrying a 25 year old woman is sick though.
Politicians. Any in your family?
No, but my father's a lawyer, and that's kind of the same thing.
Quickly. Name something you can do quickly.
Go from Zero to SWOON in 2.3 seconds. *lol*
Reincarnation. Believe it's possible or not?
I have absolutely no idea.
Sisters. Say at least one thing nice about yours.
I don't know my sister very well at all. Something nice...well, she can speak French alot better than I can. *grins*
Toy. Did you have a "Velveteen Rabbit"? That is, a toy that became real?
I actually had a Velveteen Rabbit stuffed animal! That is the BEST story. :)
And I used to imagine that all my toys were real, but were frozen in place when I came in the room. I guess the guys at Pixar got the idea for Toy Story from me. ;-)
Unhappy. The last thing that made you feel unhappy.
Looking in the mirror and feeling depressed.
Vacation. Last one you took.
A week off the coast of Scotland on the Isle of Arran.
Wishes. A selfish wish (not world peace or a cure for diseases.)
That I was thinner and liked by all.
Xercise. Favorite (or least undesirable) form.
I love horse riding, but I haven't done it in many years. I also love swimming, but I haven't done that in ages either. I guess I let my fear of what others think of me overule my desire to enjoy my favourite pastimes.
You. Say something nice about yourself.
I'm adorable!
Zoo. Favorite area.
I prefer the Wild Animal Park, where they aren't in caged enclosures, but if I do go to the zoo, I like watching the otters and meerkats, and the lemurs. And wallabies. And cats. Okay okay, I like anything cute and fuzzy that I wish I could take home with me. Satisfied? :-P
I can't believe I always worry about my journal entries being too short. *lol*

Aww, I'm sorry you can't see Andy! That would be cool! I'll keep my fingers crossed that the rehersal goes quick so you can speed on over to that other stuff. ^_^
NaNoWriMo? *snort* I couldn't even write a book, given a lifetime. ^^

Re:
Date: 2002-11-08 05:28 pm (UTC)Run out and buy a copy NOW, Ash! It's witty, tragic, and a bloody good read. And its all true too. :)
I haven't had anything to say lately I guess...haven't even checked my friend's journals, when I usually rush home to find out how everyone's doing...guess I'm in a bit of a rut, and not really in a journaling sort of mood.

I've got several copies of LCTS, so if you can't find one I'll be happy to give you one of mine. You can't have the 1st edition signed by Douglas though. :-P
