We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to bring you this important message from the Society for Putting Things On Top of Other Things:

People aren't wearing enough hats.

Thank you.

...And if you can tell me what bit of randomness I just used, I'll give you a cookie. :)

What an exceedingly tedious weekend I had. The most exciting thing I did was go to the market only to forget everything I needed to buy, but that was okay because I forgot my wallet as well. Whooot. I did have another marvellous late night conversation with [livejournal.com profile] ladynemo, who is just as silly and adorable as can be, but suffers from an unfortunate case of Time Zone-itus, which means that she is only around and stupid hours of the morning. Although I suppose that isn't usually much of a problem, as I am too. *chuckles*

Happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] sillypants and [livejournal.com profile] o0hugsnkisses0o! *throws streamers and balloons in the air* :D
You thought I had forgotten, didn't you. Ha! Shows how much you know. *giggles* :

And now for a poetic interlude -- I give you: Geeky Haiku.

With a nervous laugh,
You question my sanity
But you hold the axe.

Please welcome new friends [livejournal.com profile] moogle_tey, who has lots of nifty interests including the wonderful Serendipity books that I loved so much as a child, and [livejournal.com profile] etoilepb, who is incredibly cool (she likes the same things I do, therefore=coooooooool ;-), and I can't wait to get to know her better. Hurrah for new friends! *hugs*

Somehow I have just managed to waste an entire hour since I wrote that last sentence. Where does the time go?
On a similar yet completely unrelated note, if the speed of gravity equals that of the speed of light, does that mean you'll be weightless as well as ageless when travelling at lightspeed? Cause that would be wicked. *grins* (I could fly AND live forever -- SCORE! *lol*)

I shall now bid you all goodnight, and as a parting gift leave you with a shedload of Tori Amos quizzies. Wheeee! :)

No wait, I don't. The people aren't wearing enough hats sounds like The Crimson Permanent Assurance's people aren't wearing enough pants. Or was that hats too. Was it even crimson permanent assurance....
can I have a chocolate chip at least? XD
Thank you for the welcome ^^ Serendipity - best children's books ever made. My sister and mom try to find as many as they kind through book fairs for my collection. I guess they went out of print a while back.

Book Seller: ah, good choice - grandkids?

My mom: no. It's for my daughter in college

ok, gravitational pull is dependent on the masses of the two objects being drawn to each other... it is therefore very difficult to set a constant "speed of gravity" because no two bodies are ever far enough apart to allow their pull on each other to accellerate them to that speed, even in space... here on earth, the rate of accelleration towards the earth is 9.8 m/s^2.. and this is not taking into account air resistance.. so that velocity will decrease even further....

the speed of light is WAYYYY faster than that... in the hundreds of thousands of metres per second....

unless you are talking about black holes, which is a completely different case... because there, the speed of light is not fast enough to escape the gravitational pull of the centre of the hole, so the light doesn't come out of the hole, and you are left with a black spot in space... and if light can't get out, dont go in cause there's no way you're getting out either.. :)

i think that's enough for that brain fart...

and btw, the society of putting things on top of other things is Monty Python, isn't it? i'm really tired now and am not so sure where it's from anymore... oh well... i think that's it and i'm sticking with my answer ;)

Just saying hello because I'll be meeting you at Elly's party this weekend...

And *laughs* at your icon. I didn't realise 'Tig' had become famous in the hobbitfancying community, though I suppose it was obviously going to :) Casby and I laughed for ages at that bit in the DVD.

Where did the picture come from?

From: [identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com

Hello hello! *waves*

Tig is only the most hobbityfancying game EVER, wheeee! *giggles*

The picture is by an extremely talented artist who made some absolutely hilarious LOTR drawings, but unfortunately I lost the address and now have no idea how to find her again. I'm sure she's made some brilliant new pictures for TT too, ah well.
If I ever stumble across her work again I'll let you know. :)

Yes, but did you hear about this experiement which apparently proves that the speed of gravity is equal to the speed of light?

Most intresting stuff. :)

*puts on physics hat*

The research in question wasn't about how fast bodies travel under the influence of gravity. It was about whether the effect of gravity is instantaneous, or if it takes time to travel from one body to the next. For example, if the mass of a star suddenly reduced, would planets in orbit around it instantaneously feel a weaker force of gravity, or would it take a number of minutes for the weakening in the force to reach them.

Scientists have now done experiments indicating it's the second of these.

*takes off physics hat*

Ha! Answering physics questions and contributing to [livejournal.com profile] angelislingtons wear more hats campaign.

Date: 2003-01-13 02:12 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] eyre-lasgalen.livejournal.com
Ok, astronomers have just discovered that gravity travells at the same speed as light, and is not instantaneous as was previously believed, and that's what Nevvie was referring to with her question, I think. Einstein was right. Again.

Read about it here!

Also, in the case of black holes, they are black because the part of the light spectrum that we can see does not have enough energy to escape the strong gravitational pull of the hole. Ultra violet and infrared light can get out, but white light can't. It doen't have to do with speed, but energy.

I guess that's about it from me. I'm no physicist, and I really shouldn't be thinking about these things. Especially not Dark Energy, which really bakes my noodle.

I have two sexy hats. One of them is a very Ashfae hat, and the other is a top hat. I have a top hat! I own the world!

I suspect your randomness is Monty Python in origin.

Fire on the Side is a hugely overrated song. Why is everone so keen on Cool On Your Island when Fire on the Side is obviously superior? Weirdos.

Fire on the Side is a hugely overrated song

Don't you mean underrated? ;-)

I don't understand the fuss about Cool on your Island either, it's so boring! Bleaugh! FOTS is full of passion and sends shivers up your spine, COYI is nothing in comparision. I wish she'd re-record FOTS and Etienne, they're both so incredibly beautiful, and deserve to be heard by everyone.

Ashfae + Top Hat = Unbearable cuteness. :D

Continuing the invasionary force...

I will be appearing with my natural hair, but artificially coaxed into hobbit-like curliness using some ancient pink foam Polly Papillotten curlers I bought when I was about sixteen (plus extra artificial hair stuck to my feet).

Nice to meet you! (I have been passing by your journal occasionally ever since you introduced yourself to [livejournal.com profile] mirabehn - Neverwhere is possibly my favourite Gaiman book)

Do you remember (http://www.teenagewildlife.com/Albums/SM/ATA.html)
A guy from such an old song?
Ground control told me

News from Major Tom:
"I'm happy, hope you're happy,
"Sordid details here ...."

The empty shrieking,
Strange pictures, insanity
The planet's glowing ....

Ashes to Ashes,
Major Tom is a junkie
Falling to a low

I'll stay clean tonight
But the green wheels following
Oh no, not again

I'm stuck with my friend
"I'm happy, hope you're happy ..."
Flash of light -- no gun --

Neither good nor bad
I've never done anything
Want to come down now

Ashes to Ashes,
Major Tom is a junkie
Falling to a low

My momma said, to
Get things done, you'd better not
Mess with Major Tom ....

Sorry for slightly bad photo quality -- right in front of an open window :)

LOL -- I'll have to see if I can find one of myself; I got a photo taken standing in our ex-kitchen a week or two ago for the purposes of this, but Amanda's taking a while to develop the film :D Photography students, I dunno :)

Randall, from Monsters, Inc. -- my housemate got the showbag last year, and it came with a big soft toy of him -- he's the coolest character Disney/Pixar has thought up, so we thought he deserved a place on the Tree of Stupidity :)
