The secret of yesterday's entry: I didn't really have anything to say, so I thought I would find out how many people would reply to a post with absolutely no content whatsoever. A rather successful experiment, I think. *giggles*

For the love of god, will somebody PLEASE tell me why David Hasslehoff is a star. Any explanation'll do, because I sure as hell can't figure it out. (He made a deal with the devil, I just know it. There's no other explanation!) I just sat through 2 1/2 hours of him pretending to be a musical theatre actor in the new Broadway show Jekyll and Hyde, and quite frankly, I feel nauseous. I had borrowed the dvd from a friend because I knew a few of the songs from the show and liked them, but had never seen the production. I groaned as soon as I saw that David was in it, but I tried not to think about it. Unfortunately, his atrocious acting and even worse singing wouldn't let me forget -- he has the most obnoxious vibrato, the laziest diction (*nothing* excuses him from ruining a great song by singing 'This is the Moh-MANT!' instead of 'Moment', arrrghhhhhhh), and he kept putting his hands in these weird 'claw' positions to indicate fear/distress/anger/etc. It was just obscene! Thank god the two female leads were excellent, they really saved the production, although the entire cast (and director) is at fault for not even trying to do an English accent. The story is set in LONDON for fucksake, not Ohio! If it weren't for the occasional 'bloody' and references to the East End any audience member would *swear* it was set in America. David was of course the worst offender of all, what with his appalling accent standing out even more when he's singing. (Ugh ugh ugh.)
I was really disappointed by the entire show, I was hoping I'd enjoy it because I do like the few songs I've heard (I'd only ever heard them played just on the piano), but I can honestly say this is the first musical I've ever seen where the songs work better out of context than in the actual production. Very sad.

Does anyone want to come see Zip! -- 100 musicals in 90 minutes with me? Or perhaps Anything Goes with the fabulous (and gorgeous) John Barrowman in the lead? I haven't seen a musical in months, I feel it's about time. It's what I do after all. *grins*
Hmmm. I suppose I should see Les Miserables again before they close. Dammit, why are they closing, I haven't been a Lovely Lady yet! I know they want me, they just don't realize it yet. Of course, I suppose that could be said about just about anyone. ;-)

Everyone! You simply must go HERE and see [livejournal.com profile] ixwin's wonderful Filk versions of songs from the Buffy musical as sung by LOTR characters. Sure, she hasn't added me to her friends list, but I won't hold that against her, as she's such a talent. *grins and winks playfully*

Which Buffy Musical Song Are You?

'You feel like you have to pretend to be happy'... Yes, I do. Not all the time, but quite often. I'm the bounceyhappycheerful one after all. And I don't mind that. Not really. I'd much rather be cheerful than sad and lonely. So even if I pretend, I can still try and convince myself, as well as others.

Woooo, i was going to ask you if you wanted to see Zip with a bunch of your groupies, but forgot until just right then that second, no the one before that.

David Hasslehoff should've stopped at Knightrider and saved us all the greef of his terrible acting without a car to make excuses for him.

My groupies?? Errmm. Do you know something I don't? (Where are they hiding! I need groupies now! *laughs*)

Didn't I already ask you if you wanted to see Zip with me? I'm sure I did. I bet you just wanted to take the credit for being clever. :-P

But that would be too easy.

Les Mis is closing? At the Palace? Bloody hell, why? That's my enduring memory of my first trip to London. Because I think Andrew Lloyd Weber owns the building and is responsible for everything bad anyway, I'm going to blame him. The bastard!

And Jekyll and Hyde, God. I'm sorry. I liked the cast soundtrack because Anthony whosisface (I keep wanting to say Crivello, but that's somebody else) is a sexy boy and sang the lead part pretty well. But without him it's a bad show, I'm afraid. And Hasselhoff... gyeeuh. ::shudders:: I've seen the DVD at the library and been tempted to check it out once or twice, but, quite frankly, I would have been less embarrassed marching up to the checkout desk with hardcore underage-animal-midget porn than with that. I'm not surprised that it's as bad as I thought it is, but I'm sorry you had to be the one who found out for us.

>I would have been less embarrassed marching up to the checkout desk with hardcore underage-animal-midget porn

*LMAO* Bwahahahahahaha! Gods, so would I, that's why I never dared to rent it or anything, I just surrepticiously sneaked this out from a collegue. *grins* It was on Pay-Per-View a few months ago, but I was too embaressed even to punch in the numbers to buy it on my tv. *laughs*
One of the most sickening things was a 5 minute interview with Hasselhoff as an 'extra feature' that was just him being smug about how fabulous his voice sounded and how great it was to be on Broadway. It made me ill.

Les Mis is indeed closing, although the date keeps changing -- it was supposed to close in March, but I'm pretty sure they've moved it back to at least novemeber. Go ahead and blame ALW, everyone else in the theatreworld does. *grins*

I forgot to add:

I just don't understand people who post entries with little or no content, or at least, nothing of any redeeming value. I mean, what the hell is the point? No one is going to be entertained or informed, and it's hardly a cathartic experience for you if you don't actually write out what's on your mind. It just seems so silly and pointless.

But then, I suppose my entries are always long because I fear that if they're not, people will thing they are pointless. Meep. :)

Some people are just frivolous that way. And some can only get things out in little cryptic bits and pieces. *shrug*

I suppose that made me sound really shallow and rude. I didn't mean it like that all. There's nothing wrong with short entries, as long as they actually tell you something. Or at least are intentionally brief and silly.

Oh, I think I'm digging myself further into the hole here. Gah. *grins sheepishly*

No, no, it wasn't shallow or rude. I understand that spamming can sometimes seem completely unnecessary and even annoying, but they really can be cathartic for some people. I didn't take offense, I was just offering my take on it. =)

Good god that version of Jekyll & Hyde is awful because
of him. I fastfowards to all of the chorus numbers and Lucy and
Emma features. Which means I watch it for all of fifteen minutes ^^

HURRAH!

Am so very pleased you feel the same way. My fingers were itching to click the 'fastforward' button, but I was brave and sat through it all. Except for about 2 minutes in the first act, I just couldn't take the same goddamn tune for all the resetatives (yes, it's spelled wrong, but it's still better than not-quite-spoken-but-hardly-sung-bits-inbetween-main-songs ;-), it was driving me crazy!! And I just curled up into a ball when David starting singing destroying This is the Moment. It was all too much to handle. *cringe*

The show itself is actually quite good. I've seen it
twice, with Chuck Wagner as the lead (he originated the role
at the Alley Theatre in Houston). And it was just..amazing.
And they made an effort to sound British and all.

But yes..that tape is just...the Black Death.

I would! I want to see Anything Goes again! One of the best musicals ever! But woe woe woe, on the wrong continent! BAAAAAAAH! Les Mis is closing?? Poot! *sorrow* They closed Cats on Broadway; I thought the world was ending. I'm still not sure it hasn't ended. What's Broadway without Cats? And Miss Saigon, though that's less of a crime...

Cats closed here last May, amidst much fanfare and ponderings on the state of the West End. There was a guy who had been to every single saturday night performance since it opened in 1981 at the final show, and he was grieving so much ALW practically had to call the emergency services to get him out of the theatre. I guess some people really like kittycats, don't they. ;-)

she hasn't added me to her friends list

If it's any consolation, you're one of several people I like & whose entries I read, but who I've not added to my friends list. It's partly that your entries are kind of long, so would take up loads of space on my friends page, and partly that I would rather stalk someone for a while & maybe add them at a later date, than add them straight away and then remove them (I know I'd rather be treated that way otherwise it's like "Hey, what did I do wrong? Why don't you like me any more?")

Anyway, it's not as if you're exactly short of friends, is it? ;-)

Heyyy, that means nothing! I barely know any of them anyway. *moop*

Aiii my entries are too long? I knew it! *sheepish grin*
