Oh frabjous day!

I have a job!!!

Finally, after four long months of tedious searching and humilating rejections, someone has noticed how desirable I am and hired me at last! HUZZAH!
Yes, I am exceedingly happy. Even if it is only a minimum wage job in a video shop. But at least I get three free rentals a week, and an actual paycheck. For now, that's good enough for me. *grins*

In other news, I went to the corporate goth-punk shops HotTopic and Torrid and found some really fun things, like a shirt with the 'I have fought my way here to the Castle beyond the Goblin City...' poem from Labyrinth on it, some birthday goodies for various friends, and a Care Bears air freshener for my car. And I even found an adorable Bright Heart Raccoon plushie for my dashboard, which made me exceedingly happy. I was never really a big Care Bears fan, but I love the Care Bear Cousins, especially that clever, purple, 'walking encyclopaedia' Bright Heart Raccoon. He was just like me! As a raccoon of course.
(Hey [livejournal.com profile] ashfae -- when Kamala and I were little we used to play Care Bears, and I was always Bright Heart, and she was Swift Heart Rabbit. We'd dance around singing the 'Forest of Feelings' song and pretend to save the day. Cute, neh? ;-)

I know I want to go back to England for a visit before the year ends, but I don't know when to go -- Neil Gaiman is doing another reading/Q&A at Foyles in November, but Billy Boyd's and Ian McKellen's plays aren't opening until December. Plus it would be easier, I suppose, to visit people around the Christmas holidays, but it would also be more expensive to travel then too. Arrrghh. I really must decide soon, before the prices rise to high. But it's so difficult! I suppose it really doesn't matter, as long as I just go. And go I shall! Oh yes, it shall be done. :)

I'm going to be going to the Foyle's thingy - Dave McKean will be talking and signing too. It'd be even more fun if you came!

And now I want a Labyrinth t-shirt.

[identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com 2003-09-10 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)

I would dearly love to come, but I just don't know how I could do it. I miss Neil so much! I was standing right next to him for four days and never got to say hello, and who knows when I'll see him again! Oh, the agony. Whinge. *laughs*

[identity profile] amaterasu.livejournal.com 2003-09-09 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
C O N G R A T S ! ! !

*does happy dance for Nevvie*

Three free rentals a week can't be all bad... Anyhow! The Labyrinth shirt sounds ultra-cool--I think I need to pop in to Hot Topic sometime. I haven't set foot in one in years, so I didn't know about all the nifty Geek Ware I've been missing.

[identity profile] galador42.livejournal.com 2003-09-09 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Over at Hollywood Video, we're allowed three out at a time, which is very nice. When I'm done I can always rent three more. If only I had time to actually watch some of them nowadays...

[identity profile] amaterasu.livejournal.com 2003-09-10 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
If I got all those free rentals, I would never leave my house.

[identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com 2003-09-10 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)

*chuckles*

Well, let's hope I have the willpower to leave once in a while. So I can actually go to work and keep getting the rentals. ;-)

[identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com 2003-09-10 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)

Hee!

That's where I work. Go me!

[identity profile] galador42.livejournal.com 2003-09-10 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I wholeheartedly approve of you. :)

[identity profile] airemay.livejournal.com 2003-09-09 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] banazir.livejournal.com 2003-09-09 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Go you!
Here is a hobbit "Happy Worker" hat. (It doubles as a Tori one, too. Thank Tamf of TEUNC fro inventing this pwactice.)

I suggest going at a time that covers as many fwends as possible. Barring taht, thry early December and catching both plays. (Ideally, these would coincide.) I hope you manage to visit Engerland - it sounds as if it would be vert good for you.

Congrats!!! (((Nevvie)))

I'm just about to enter the hunt for a job. *is scared*

Labyrinth was the first live action movie I obsessed over. The t-shirt sounds v. cool.

[identity profile] charmingdetails.livejournal.com 2003-09-09 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, hooray! Congratulations. That must be a relief!

[identity profile] ashfae.livejournal.com 2003-09-09 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Free rentals! Here is news for you then--Jim Henson's Storyteller is out on DVD. If you've got a DVD player, go fetch! Fetch I say!

*loves Hot Topic*

Yes you are very cute. Heh.

Whenever you go to England, let me know so we can meet up and I can join you in whatever kickass activity you decide to partake in--all of those sound utterly nifty.

[identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com 2003-09-10 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)

I don't own a video player, just dvd -- can't WAIT to see Storyteller! Oh, squee! :D

I thought you would be amused at Lil Nevvie and Lil Kamala stories. She'd be horrified if she knew I told you of course. *laughs*

[identity profile] ashfae.livejournal.com 2003-09-10 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
*WANTS Storyteller utterly!*

Hee, Lil Nevvie and Lil Kamala! I want more stories!

[identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com 2003-09-11 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)

Hmmmmmm...more stories. *ponders*

There used to be two enormous wooden fort-like things in our playground that we pretended to be a pirateship or in a castle or a space station (ack! Aliens!)...and we knew a boy named Alex Cherry who used to suck on shoestrings and eat his own hair. *laughs*

And I used to beat her at Hungry Hungry Hippos. *giggles*

[identity profile] llanerch.livejournal.com 2003-09-09 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Wheeeeeeeeeeee!!! Congrats!

*way*big*hugs*

[identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com 2003-09-10 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)

*laughs*

Oh Ellydear, you KNOW I could never leave England without visiting you! *pouncesnugglesqueeze!*

And don't worry about the pressie -- I still have yours to send out after all! *giggles sheepishly*

[identity profile] akira114.livejournal.com 2003-09-10 07:35 am (UTC)(link)

Huzzah and well done Otthe lady, I'm sitting here in the Medway Campus of my Uni on a first aid course :/ its essential but a bit taking as you can see in mypost today the Homophobic comments do not help.

[identity profile] ixwin.livejournal.com 2003-09-10 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! Well done!

And go you for keeping trying when it seemed to be going nowhere.

Money is good...

Congrats !

[identity profile] cat-irix.livejournal.com 2003-09-10 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Way to go, Nevvie !

I start to miss your cheerful posts... Hopefully, having a job and a source of income, you'll be posting more often :)

*hugs*

[identity profile] eyre-lasgalen.livejournal.com 2003-09-10 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I knew you'd get a job eventually, and 3 free rentals a week isn't shabby! That include DVD?

God, I love Hot Topic and Torrid!! That Labyrinth (sp?) shirt sounds AMAZING!!! UGH! Why can't we have those shops in Canada? All I can do is hope for the best on Ebay.

*dances around with Nevvie* Get your ASS to England. BUT, if you plan to go in Feb, you might could be there when I'm there too......

[identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com 2003-09-10 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)

*LMAO*

I've been wondering when you were going to get an Evil Monkey icon. It's perfect!

I think I might have to on holiday at christmas AND feburary...*G*

[identity profile] eyre-lasgalen.livejournal.com 2003-09-10 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it the best evil monkey icon EVER?! I almost died when I found it, and then I didn't even think to use it on lj for at least 2 weeks. Just sitting in my hard drive, gathering dust.

Yes, Feb sounds good *nods emphatically*

[identity profile] chicanerys-muse.livejournal.com 2003-09-11 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Congrats on the new job sweetums!!

First step video clerk.. next THE WORLD!!!!

[identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com 2003-09-11 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)

Hee! Now I have the 'Worst Witch' theme music in my head. So cute. :)

It was a very good omen indeed that on my first day a Neil Gaiman fan came in wanting the Neverwhere dvd and I got to show off in front of my boss, talking to the guy for 15 minutes about all things Neil and being the best Customer Service Representative I could be. Whooot!

[identity profile] sillypants.livejournal.com 2003-09-11 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
HURRAH! You are spectacularrrrrrrr.

I, in a weird moment, once had vast ambitions of being a video store clerk. Like, as a career. They still haven't quite left me.
