Save me Illuvatar, from the pillocks who insist on calling TTT the Twin Towers, before I can longer control myself and punch the next one right in the nose. Arrrghh!

Anyway. :)

Does this ever happen to you? You're watching tv, flipping channels, and you think you've come across a very underbudget but mildly interesting parody of Planet of the Apes, and just when you're starting to chuckle at the outrageously campy costumes and fur-clad bikini women -- oh, wait, that bikini woman is taking off her top and starting to snog her neighbour, whom you've just noticed is wearing a dog collar and is chained to yet another bikini woman. Oh. *snerk* No, I did not keep watching (for very long), but I did laugh outloud at this charming piece of cinema verite:
Bikini Woman #1: Brr! It's so cold here.
Bikini Woman #2: In Russia, we used our bodies to keep each other warm. *moves to stroke #1's knee*
Bikini Woman #1: HEY! I don't go in for that kind of thing.
Bikini Woman #3: I'm so lonely... *grabs #1 and starts snogging her with copious amounts of tongue*
Bikini Woman #1: Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Am I the only one who finds this complete turnaround in less than five seconds amusing? *grins*

Also on the weird tv front, I stumbled across something that I thought was Fushigi Yuugi (in an absolutely APPALLING English dub, never heard anything quite so atrocious. Thank god I have it on dvd), but after about a minute I became utterly confused, and kept repeating to myself 'What the hell is going on!?' Tamahome is mistaken for Nakago? Tama kills Koiji? Yui's back in the book? WTF?? I knew it was an OAV, but that didn't prevent me from being totally flummoxed. Sadly, I only saw the one episode, so I have no idea what happens next. Not that I really wanted to continue watching anything with such dire voice actors.

I also watched The Fantastic Adventures of Unico and Unico and the Island of Magic, the latter being the most terrifying children's film ever made. Seriously. The villain scared the shit out of me when I was five, and he still frightens me. Unico is obnoxiously adorable of course. I used to have a Unico sticker book (appropriately titled 'My Sticker Book') which I loved, and a whole bunch of other Sanrio goodies featuring the ickle unicorn. I wonder what happened to them? Probably thrown out by my father, who took all the things he considered 'rubbish' (original Star Wars figures, first edition children's books, all kinds of early-mid 80's toys and promotional items) and put them in the garbage, all of which would of course now bring me a small fortune from eBay. Damn him.

In other news...Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] sheldrake, [livejournal.com profile] squeetard and [livejournal.com profile] sillypants! *brings a very sibalent cake for you to eat* ;-) And welcome new friends [livejournal.com profile] cenire, [livejournal.com profile] copinggoggles and [livejournal.com profile] mermaiden! Making new friends gives me so much joy. :)

And speaking of joy, I spoke for over an hour last night with my beloved [livejournal.com profile] brandybuck, which definitely rates uberhigh on the HAPPY-O-Meter. *giggles* *snogs her senseless* :D

I thought we had watched the OVAs, and that they were set in modern Japan with Miaka and Tama at school together?

But no matter. I shall, like you, pretend these atrocities do not exist. :)

They are, kinda, at first; but he gets sucked back into the book for frankly dumb reasons. (besides, if this Tamahome was reincarnated and grew up in the modern world, WHY WHY WHY is he freaked out happy by trains and things? The OVAs are DUMB) There's two sets of OVAs. The first set sucks. Except for the Bus Ride parody at the end, which is lovely and I'm sure I forced you to watch. I haven't seen all of the second set (just the first episode, which stunk), but everyone tells me it sucks too. There may be yet another set dealing with stories of some of the Suzaku Seishi, but I ;m not sure of that...

Get the graphic novels! They're translating the manga and releasing it out here! They're up to book nine or so! It ROCKS!!!!!!!!

I saw the manga at Barnes and Noble and squealed with delight, until of course I realized I didn't have enough money to start collecting them all.

...Like that's ever stopped me. ;-)

Fortunately some brilliant people are beginning to realize "Hey! If we make these cheaper, more people will buy them! Good deal!" and slashing the price of manga. Yeehah!!! Ranma 1/2's been cut from $17 to $8, and I think the same thing was happening with FY...still lots of money, but more possible!

(actually, in the manga it's NOT Tamahome Miaka's with, but a reincarnation of him named Taka who also gets sucked into the book, so she gets the "Gaaah! Tamahome or Taka?" dilemna. The manga is craaaaaaaaazy)

(there are also ghosts! GHOST NURIKO! It's funny as hell! She shows up in ghost form to ask what the seishi are doing, and they say "Shh! We're praying for Nuriko's happiness in the next world!" and she goes "Oh!" and joins in, and then everyone does the best doubletake EVER!)

I think I remember Ghost Nuriko!

Okay okay. I'm going to start saving up for the Manga goodness. Maybe someone's selling a bunch on eBay for a dollar...*G*

Oh, mangas in bookstores are wonderful things. Coffee and couches in bookstores are even better. I remember when you couldn't find anime or manga anywhere... now I can spend an evening at B&N and read 3 or 4 in one night. Besides, they make more profit from the coffees than they do on books. That's why they don't bitch.
