Anyone want to come to Holland with me?

Neil Gaiman, Phillip Pullman, Brian Froud and other wonderful people are all going to be at the Elf Fantasy Fair on 23 April. Sounds like heaven to me. Even if it is in Holland. *grins*

I found a film with one of the silliest titles I've ever heard -- Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter. Apparently its a combination of Rocky Horror, Jesus Christ Superstar and WWF Smackdown. *laughs* I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] pouk23 (and just about every other twisted person on my friends list) would love it. :)

Random thought of the day: Why is a mouse when it spins?

Also -- why the heck does Peter Piper get such a thrill from picking all those damn pickled peppers? And how exactly did he do it anyway? Pickles are neither picked nor peppered, as they're fermented cucumbers. It makes no sense!

And now some self abuse with hobbits.

Neil *and* Brian Froud?! *dies* I am so there. (I wish I could afford it! Neil would probably be highly confused if I showed up to see him in Holland too...) I'm still kicking myself for missing out on this doll artisan convention from 3 years ago that Brian & Wendy Froud attended -- one of the workshops given was a Creature Creation thingee with the two of them as well as a guided meditation based on Brian's Faerie Oracle deck. *sigh*

You? Obsessed with Pip's scarf? Can't imagine why.. not like you have a sceen name modeled after it or anything.. *giggle*
Oh, ain't he just adorable when he grins like that?

Ahhhhhhh! Dude. Dude. I would give a limb to be there. Stupid Australia. Grrragh.

They are, like, The Three Cleverest People Alive Ever. And stuff.

Oh! Squee! I could maybe even do that! And it's right near my birthday, so I could even justify the expense to myself. Hmm... Do you have a link of some flavor?

I'm a horrible person.

I'm not positive I'm going to be able to get free to go to my sister's graduation in May. I'm not entirely sure I want to, as my evil grandparents are going to be there.

But this... well, I'm thinking about it.

Uhm... Holland is pretty close to Sweden... sort of! A litle bit closer than London is, anyway! So why don't you come visit me..? ( I live in the very southernmost part of Sweden too; it's not a very long way to travel... )

Believe it or not, I spent far too much of my childhood pondering the Peter Piper controversy. The pickle thing is easy - in English English (I take it then that you speak American English - I was unsure, since it's obviously quite English American English) what the Americans call pickles are called gherkins, and whilst 'pickle' as a noun is brown gunky stuff, anything at all preserved in vinegar (eggs, onions and peppers being particularly popular) can be said to be pickled.

However, the fact remains that peppers are first picked and then peppered and so to pick a pickled pepper would seem impossible. But one day I saw a television programme in which some pear liquor was sold in narrow-necked bottles containing a whole pear. The pear was placed in the bottle when but a baby and grew to be so big that it could not be removed. I concluded (I was c.8) that something similar must have occured in the Peter Piper case. It was several years before I pondered the point of whether peppers would continue to grow once pickled.

And so it remains one of the greatest mysteries of our age.

I just found out about it, I don't know if it's a yearly event or if it moves around Europe or anything, I just know my favourite people are going to be there. And I desperately want to go.

Moop.

Most of the time I think I'd rather be where you are (especially when it's desperately cold and raining) -- maybe we could swap places for a day or two? And then you hop across the channel to Holland and see all the nifty people, and I could get a tan. *grins*

Hehehehe...when he was here on the Coraline tour last year I saw him three days in a row, and I know he was sick of the sight of me. *laughs* 'Oh, lord, not YOU again!' :D

That workshop sounds really nifty! I would have loved to attend that. Mmmm Brian Froud...*faerie droolage* :)

Neil was getting that way with me at Boskone last year. I kept running into him in the hallways and even once when he was coming out of the men's room. It was all unplanned but I *KNOW* he was sure I was stalking him. LOL Since [livejournal.com profile] lucy_anne and I have been to see him together 3 x in a row at various events, he's also certain we're attached at the hip. It's nothing of the sort -- we just live near one another and are friends. But now it's like "Do you two only come as a matched set?"

I'd love to see Brian Froud anywhere -- I think I'd die of happiness. :)

I've seen Neil 5 times, and he's remembered me at nearly every event, which is of course highly flattering, but I'm pretty sure he thinks I'm stalking him. And who knows, maybe I am. *grins impishly* ;-)

Neil's amazing about how he can remember faces and names of so many people. I've been corresponding with him on and off since 1990 and the first time I met him (during the Stardust Tour), I was actually very shy about saying hello. My then boyfriend pushed me to introduce myself as I was getting my stuff signed and Neil was just over the moon. He grabbed me in this big bear hug, smooched me and then proceeded to introduce me to all these other people and show them my Death Barbie doll etc. It was kind of embarrassing and it pissed off a lot of people in the line behind me!

I've seen him 4x since then (3x with Lucy Anne) and he's always seeing us first and saying hello. I can't complain -- it's nice that he actually remembers who I am and all sorts of weird little details about me which is more than I can say for some friends of mine. LOL

I try not to stalk him cos I am still shy -- but at Boskone, it was getting ridiculous. We just kept running into one another. I felt like saying 'No, Neil, I did NOT follow you to the toilet and stand outside the door just in hopes that you'd come out and say hello to me!" :)

Well, he used to have his own forums on both Compuserve and GEnie back in the early 90s so he was pretty easy to find. He was just "that Sandman guy" to most of the world so I guess he was desperate for any fen he could wrangle. LOL Lucy Anne is much much cooler since she's been mentioned by name on more than one occasion on http://www.neilgaiman.com -- she does research and archival work for http://www.thedreaming.com

I am jealous of her to be honest. :) Me, I'm just a boring old fan girl (although I will admit that it's kind of cool that Neil has copies of *my* books in his library -- they're only books on doll collecting but still...)

Wow. Neil has your books. Wow. :)))

Yes, she is *THE* LucyAnne. :) I have several other friends who know him much better than I do too -- they get real letters and Xmas cards from him whereas I just get emails on occasion. I just don't like to be a pest.

In all seriousness, I'm just a boring old fan girl! No reason to be speechless at all! :)
