Feb. 16th, 2003 11:15 pmI'm ill.
Which I suppose is as good excuse as any for not going to the anti-war demonstration in London yesterday. I had mixed feelings about going anyway, but even before I got sick (on friday) I realized that I would probably hyperventilate if I were in a crowd of a million people, I just do not feel comfortable in large groups, and that would have been far too large to handle. But it would have been nice to meet up with
evil_nick and say hi. Ah well, another time. :)
Lets see, what are some interesting things that have happened lately...
--- This morning I watched a programme about otters! God, they're adorable. I love their little noses and the way they slide down on their tummies into the water, and their cute lil' squeaks and especially their playful nature. They're just soooo cute. Yayyy otters!

andraste_oz's journal this week is full of stories about her trip to New Zealand, and it's making me very nostalgic. My 3 weeks in NZ was the best vacation I ever had, and not just because it was the last holiday I had with both my parents (it was just before their divorce). We went to both islands, and visited just about everywhere, including most of the locations used for the filming of Lord of the Rings, and had the most amazing time. I walked on a glacier, worked on a sheep station (I sheared a sheep!), nearly bungee jumped (alas, too young), went on a trip through a Fjord, and saw the most breathtaking scenery in the world. New Zealand really is as beautiful as LOTR makes it out to be, and it's no surprise that all the boys want to move there. *I* want to move there. Maybe one day I shall. :)
--- I had a pleasant surprise this weekend when I discovered that one of my favourite shows when I was younger is still on tv, a brilliant Australian kids show called Ocean Girl. Does anyone else remember this series? It used to be on Disney and I was totally addicted. It's about a girl who's best friend is a whale named Charlie, and the two boys she meets one day who become her friends and protectors. It sounds utterly cheesy, but it's such fun! I wanted to know Neri so badly, and swim with her and Charlie off the beautiful island that was their home. Yeah, I'm sad. But you knew that already. *grins*
--- I'm so pleased that everyone enjoyed my silly little quiz. I have a few ideas for more, if you're interested. *G* At least, I thought everyone liked it -- the only people who graded it all gave it a 1/5. Which didn't exactly make me feel very good, as you can imagine. *I* thought it was a rather enjoyable bit of fluff. Any suggestions about what I can improve next time? (Don't worry, pictures will be smaller, and it won't be a friends related quiz. Probably. ;-)
---This is a vast collection of LOTR filks (song parodies), some of which are absolutely hysterical. Go read!
Oooh, and speaking of parodies,
ixwin has updated her page of LOTR/Buffy songs! Click meeeee.
--- I think I need a new moodtheme, but I don't know how to make one. There's nothing really wrong with this one (mmm LOTR boys), but I'm afraid there's just too much Elijiah Wood. Sorry
trianne, he's cute and all, but he's no Billeh. *grins* If some generous soul would like to talk me through the process, I'd be ever so grateful.
--- Someone please recommend a book and music CD to me. I am desperate for something new and exciting. The last book I read, The Red Tent was amazing, a wonderful historical fiction written in a simple, elegant prose. Very meaningful and interesting. But now I have read every single book in my substantial collection (most of which I have already read at least 3 or 4 times) and I'm getting restless. More books! One can never have enough books, as this charming Edward Gorey shirt says. Anyone want to buy it for me? *grins*
And now here is a present for all my friends, because you're all special, and I don't think I have thanked you for being so kind and wonderful to me. Thank you. :)

Date: 2003-02-16 03:29 pm (UTC)It's on saturday and sunday afternoons on Discovery Kids. I'm so happy you liked it too! *high five* :D
Did you know that Neri's an alien? And she has a sister? I got as far as the end of that series, when her sister went back home but she stayed on earth, but I'm pretty sure the episode I saw today was the next series, as I don't remember it and the boys looked alot older. I'll have to look around online for some fansites to catch up with the story, but who cares! I get to watch my show again! (God, I am so sad. I really shouldn't get this excited about a kids program. *laughs*)

Date: 2003-02-16 04:18 pm (UTC)I can remember many a lazy afternoon playing in the pool with my sister where we'd Neri-swim our day away. Then we'd decide to play "The Little Mermaid" instead and fight over who got to be Ariel until I'd say something like "Alright, you can be Ariel - I want to be "Pearl", Ariel's far more exciting and much more attractive cousin" which would start arguement number two - who got to be Pearl, which funnily enough Lucy would win while I was left to be Ariel... aha ha ha.

Date: 2003-02-16 04:21 pm (UTC)TONEYYY! *flyingtacklepouncesquish* :D
Actually, I Neri-swam even before I saw the show. *grins sheepishly*
I learned to swim by imitating dolphins, and actually had to be taught 'normal' ways of swimming. Aren't I a freak? *laughs*

Date: 2003-02-16 05:03 pm (UTC)I was bitten by a wild dolphin when I was seven years old. It's actually one of my fondest memories. *giggles*
(Well, not the teeth on my leg, that wasn't fun, but the half hour or so before when we were playing together. That was fun. :)

Oh, I can not wait to use that line out of context. Bwahahahaha. :)
