No scorn nor pity on me take...
Sep. 7th, 2003 05:05 pmI have watched Sense and Sensibility four times this week (well, actually three, as last night I listened to the excellent commentary with Emma Thompson instead) and listened to the book on tape in my car. Yes, I really am that sad. *laughs* I just can't help myself, sometimes I get in these moods where I watch all 6 hours of Pride and Prejudice twice in a row or watch and read Persuasion at the same time...Jane Austen just infects the soul like a virus, and one can only wait till the happy illness is over. *grins* Besides, I don't think there's anything wrong with desiring to hear again and again 'My heart is, and always will be, yours'. Nothing wrong with it at all. :)
I must confess my newest guilty pleasure -- I have become a Bear in the Big Blue House devotee. *giggles* Bear is so utterly adorable, and I love the way the show talks to it's intended audience without ever being patronizing. (Of course it does, it's a Henson Studios production!) Plus the songs are actually really entertaining, with fun, clever lyrics, unlike the drivel that's on every other kids show. (*coughcoughTweeniesmustBURNcough*) And most importantly of all, they have purple otters! Wheee! If that isn't an endorsement to watch a tv series, I don't know what is. ;-)
Okay okay, there's one more guilty pleasure. I love Kim Possible. *hides* *laughs* Or rather, I love ubergeeky Ron Stoppable, Kim's sidekick. He's soooo cute! He plays D&D and quotes Star Trek and is just generally goofy. What's not to love?
And speaking of geeks, my other newest crush is Peter Parker on the new MTV Spiderman series. He is SO HOT, guhhh. It also helps that he has tawny eyes so he looks like my favourite Harry Potter artist's version of Professor Lupin. Woof! *giggles*
Welcome new friend
versaphile! She seems exceedingly nifty and likes all the same things I do, which shows she has exquisite taste. *grins impishly* It is a shame that I did not make her acquaintance earlier, for she lives in San Diego and I'm sure we would have had a great time if we met up at Comic Con. Ah well. *G*
Hmmm...anything else to say? Oh yes. 4 days till my birthday! Whooot.
I really need something to do so I don't feel lonely and depressed about not having anyone to share it with. Suggestions anyone? :)

Re: I am half agony, half hope
Date: 2003-09-07 05:23 pm (UTC)It is my all time favorite Austen adaptation. They are both so wonderful in it! The bit at the end with the letter! And then he takes her hand out on the street...*swoon*
It's so great running into someone who knows and loves it. I've tried to introduce friends who loved Sense & Sensibility to it and they just laughed. Oh well.

Date: 2003-09-07 05:37 pm (UTC)Oh ye gods, that scene.....*mellllllllllt*
When I first saw the film in the cinema, I gasped loudly when he touched her hand. I mean, really loudly. People stared. *laughs*
It's absolutely incredible how much emotion can be conveyed in a single gesture, and equally disappointing that we have lost all such significance in this modern world. I felt more chemistry and depth of emotion from that touch than a thousand kisses could convey. Absolutely amazing. :))))

Date: 2003-09-07 05:43 pm (UTC)I know exactly what you mean. There are so many little things in that movie that mean so much. There are more meaningful looks there than in lots of "modern" movies. It's kind of the same with P&P. There's only one real kiss in all 6 hours, but it's worth it.
Re: I am half agony, half hope
Date: 2003-09-07 05:46 pm (UTC)I think I've watched P&P 100 times. Seriously. Over the years I've taped it off telly, bought the videos, bought the dvd, bought the special edition dvd, and spent faaaaaaaar too much time obsessing. Indeed I have. *giggles*
Gah. Am such a sad, sad fangirl. Go me! :D
Re: I am half agony, half hope
Date: 2003-09-07 05:51 pm (UTC)I've had movie fests based around P&P. I own the videos and dvd. And the making of book that I had to order specially.
I'll probably take it off to college with me, too.
Fangirling is fun.
Also, I should be getting the Neverwhere DVD tomorrow. It is worth it, isn't it? No, wait. Of course it's worth it. Silly question.

Richard is a delight, and you will fall madly in love with the Marquis. Mmmm so sexy. *lick*
