No scorn nor pity on me take...
Sep. 7th, 2003 05:05 pmI have watched Sense and Sensibility four times this week (well, actually three, as last night I listened to the excellent commentary with Emma Thompson instead) and listened to the book on tape in my car. Yes, I really am that sad. *laughs* I just can't help myself, sometimes I get in these moods where I watch all 6 hours of Pride and Prejudice twice in a row or watch and read Persuasion at the same time...Jane Austen just infects the soul like a virus, and one can only wait till the happy illness is over. *grins* Besides, I don't think there's anything wrong with desiring to hear again and again 'My heart is, and always will be, yours'. Nothing wrong with it at all. :)
I must confess my newest guilty pleasure -- I have become a Bear in the Big Blue House devotee. *giggles* Bear is so utterly adorable, and I love the way the show talks to it's intended audience without ever being patronizing. (Of course it does, it's a Henson Studios production!) Plus the songs are actually really entertaining, with fun, clever lyrics, unlike the drivel that's on every other kids show. (*coughcoughTweeniesmustBURNcough*) And most importantly of all, they have purple otters! Wheee! If that isn't an endorsement to watch a tv series, I don't know what is. ;-)
Okay okay, there's one more guilty pleasure. I love Kim Possible. *hides* *laughs* Or rather, I love ubergeeky Ron Stoppable, Kim's sidekick. He's soooo cute! He plays D&D and quotes Star Trek and is just generally goofy. What's not to love?
And speaking of geeks, my other newest crush is Peter Parker on the new MTV Spiderman series. He is SO HOT, guhhh. It also helps that he has tawny eyes so he looks like my favourite Harry Potter artist's version of Professor Lupin. Woof! *giggles*
Welcome new friend
versaphile! She seems exceedingly nifty and likes all the same things I do, which shows she has exquisite taste. *grins impishly* It is a shame that I did not make her acquaintance earlier, for she lives in San Diego and I'm sure we would have had a great time if we met up at Comic Con. Ah well. *G*
Hmmm...anything else to say? Oh yes. 4 days till my birthday! Whooot.
I really need something to do so I don't feel lonely and depressed about not having anyone to share it with. Suggestions anyone? :)

I did see him last week when I was flipping channels and caught sight of him on the Jerry Lewis telethon thingy. So that was good. :D

Do you know if there's a soundtrack? I'd definitely get it.

I am half agony, half hope
Date: 2003-09-07 05:12 pm (UTC)Oh dear, I think I need to go watch one of them now.
*silly grin*
Re: I am half agony, half hope
Date: 2003-09-07 05:19 pm (UTC)YESS!!
I am in raptures over that adaptation. I absolutely adore Amanda Root's heartbreakingly understated performance, and Ciaran is perfect as Captain Wentworth. Yes yes yes. I'm so glad you know it!
Re: I am half agony, half hope
Date: 2003-09-07 05:23 pm (UTC)It is my all time favorite Austen adaptation. They are both so wonderful in it! The bit at the end with the letter! And then he takes her hand out on the street...*swoon*
It's so great running into someone who knows and loves it. I've tried to introduce friends who loved Sense & Sensibility to it and they just laughed. Oh well.
Re: I am half agony, half hope
Date: 2003-09-07 05:37 pm (UTC)Oh ye gods, that scene.....*mellllllllllt*
When I first saw the film in the cinema, I gasped loudly when he touched her hand. I mean, really loudly. People stared. *laughs*
It's absolutely incredible how much emotion can be conveyed in a single gesture, and equally disappointing that we have lost all such significance in this modern world. I felt more chemistry and depth of emotion from that touch than a thousand kisses could convey. Absolutely amazing. :))))
Re: I am half agony, half hope
Date: 2003-09-07 05:43 pm (UTC)I know exactly what you mean. There are so many little things in that movie that mean so much. There are more meaningful looks there than in lots of "modern" movies. It's kind of the same with P&P. There's only one real kiss in all 6 hours, but it's worth it.
Re: I am half agony, half hope
Date: 2003-09-07 05:46 pm (UTC)I think I've watched P&P 100 times. Seriously. Over the years I've taped it off telly, bought the videos, bought the dvd, bought the special edition dvd, and spent faaaaaaaar too much time obsessing. Indeed I have. *giggles*
Gah. Am such a sad, sad fangirl. Go me! :D
Re: I am half agony, half hope
Date: 2003-09-07 05:51 pm (UTC)I've had movie fests based around P&P. I own the videos and dvd. And the making of book that I had to order specially.
I'll probably take it off to college with me, too.
Fangirling is fun.
Also, I should be getting the Neverwhere DVD tomorrow. It is worth it, isn't it? No, wait. Of course it's worth it. Silly question.
Re: I am half agony, half hope
Date: 2003-09-07 05:54 pm (UTC)Of COURSE it's worth it!
Richard is a delight, and you will fall madly in love with the Marquis. Mmmm so sexy. *lick*
:D
GAH
Date: 2003-09-09 01:06 pm (UTC)Richard is absolutely adorable. And the Marquis? Well, confidence is sexy. Oooh yeah. :D

I rented Pride and Prejudice. Sigh. It was so wonderful. I am reading it right now. I got the book when my mom and I went up to Idyllwild. I also got Emma up there. Anyway, I loved the movie! I want a Mr. Darcey! *whines*
I need your mailing address, as your birthday is coming up. K? E-mail it to me.

Happy early birthday!! Since I may not be around when it happens. You should dance around the flat, singing some odd tune in your own ceremonial birthday rite, with lit candles on the table. And then take a picture, put it online, and let us gawk at the freakish birthday glow and leave pretty birthday comments.
Or, the better choice: go out! Woooo, some cool bars or something? Eh, what are some favorable locations in LA :/ I dunno if you'd want to do that sort of thing. Not for the alcohol, just to meet people. *shrug* That's not always fun though, and it's only good if you know the right bars :/ One of my online friends just had a gay friend of hers take her to a gay bar and she had a blast gawking at all the pretty boys with him :P I dunno if you'd be into that, or have connections to be able to do that, or.... oh blast, I'm not very good at birthday ideas! Usually I just stay home and watch films, or eat chocolate doughnuts while watching the films....
happy birthday?
Why hello darling!
Date: 2003-09-09 04:19 pm (UTC)How've you been dear? :)
Hello yourself :P
Date: 2003-09-12 03:02 pm (UTC)Also am indulging myself in the Drama troupe at school before I graduate, and am sharing your cartoon/children's show fanciment with Yu-Gi-Oh. I particularly am enamoured of MALIK and BAKURA! WOOOOOO!
yes'm! Anime is good! I refuse to be told I'm too old for it!
I just finished a good fantasy (and yaoi, at that!) series called the Last Herald Mage, but now I'm stuck reading stuff for school now that it's started. Although, I don't really miund reading Our Town and The Odyssey. The lists aren't too bad this year. I've recenbtly decided on ym future and so am studying my wits out to push meself along, languagewise. I'm going to be a writer, hopefully, with a degree in either Writing (that's a new one, and only in some schools. Depends on where I decide to go) or Journalism. And then after two or so years of experience in the field, hopefully I'll be hired into a fantasy section of a publishing company. But, uh, I still have way too much learning to do about what the hell I'm getting myself into, and I might change my mind again, but I doubt it this time.
So that's what I hope to do. Realizing the goial is another sytep altogether >.< Bugger to that. I'm still waiting for Extended TTT with impatience, and taking the days as they come. My city's pretty boring, but then that's probably got somethiong to do with the fact I'm not of legal drinking age yet and I can't afford a car yet either. Not that I'd want to drink; I don't. But 21 seems to be the age to get in a lot of interesting places. *shrug* ah well. I can wait a few more years ^^
How have *you* been? I only have a few hours of access a week, so I can no longer read my friendspage with the leisure I used to and seeeeee what everybody's got themselves into this time.
Not to mention papers, essays, projects, tests, and everyday hoemwork that they all throw in *grumblegrumble* So even if I had the internet access, I still wouldn't have my liesure time with LJ *grumble(to the tenth power)* gaaaaah >.

Date: 2003-09-07 07:28 pm (UTC)So true! Jane Austen is my "comfort food"... I've read all of her books at least once, and I've watched Persuasion a zillion times and will watch it a zillion more! It's my favorite. I was extremely addicted to the Gwyneth Paltrow version of Emma a few years ago -- and how could anyone not adore the Pride and Prejudice miniseries? ^^ For some reason, Sense and Sensibility has never appealed to me much, though, the book or the movie...

confessions of a jane austen addict
Date: 2003-09-08 03:15 am (UTC)Too true! I watched A&E Network's version of Pride and Prejudice a few weeks ago and it got me into all sorts of trouble. *wicked grin* I figured out a way that my fiance and I can run off to Gretna Green and get married, only we have to push the wedding date forward to next May so that Scotland's has more hours of daylight for visiting castles, etc. Next I couldn't resist buying copies of P & P and S & S when I saw a bunch of classic novels on sale at Border's. Now I'm hooked. *sigh* Who needs modern romance novels when the old ones are sooo good?
Re: confessions of a jane austen addict
Date: 2003-09-09 04:25 pm (UTC)Wow, that's so cool! I certainly hope you do make it to Gretna, and have a fabulous wedding day!
