What a week!
Aug. 25th, 2004 05:50 pmI have a new job!
I have a new car!
I quite possibly have a lawsuit pending against Hollywood Video because they owe me $500 in unpaid wages and never gave me breaks!
WOOOHOOOOOO!
I was hired on monday at Technicolour Creative Services in Hollywood (just off the Sunset Strip) and start work there next week, which is just so exciting I'm still finding it difficult to contain my glee. I'm basically doing menial labour but it won't be difficult and I'll most likely be promoted rather soon as other areas in the company are always looking for ripe and ready employees. Now you can all say you know someone in the film industry! Aren't you lucky. *grins impishly*
In case you've forgotten, I was rear-ended on the motorway about three weeks ago, and last night I finally got my replacement. It's a newer model of the old one (2003 Hyundai Accent), with only 4000 miles on it, so it's practically brand new, and is the most gorgeous sparkly silver colour. Mmmmm. She just needs a name -- so far I'm favouring something with 'silver' in Elvish (like Celebriel) or Islington, Izzie for short. Isn't that cute? Something angelic and shiny would suit her best. Any suggestions? :)
And the lawsuit...well, my father the hotshot labour lawyer knows someone who's filing a class action suit against my former employer and wants me to get in on the action. We'll wait and see what happens. Wouldn't it be fantastic if I won a million dollars? Awww yeahhhh. *G*

Date: 2004-08-26 01:02 am (UTC)The real hurdle is this: unless you exempted out of it when it was first introduced last year, you agreed to abide by the terms of mediation set forth by Hollywood Video, therefore you would be unable to bring forth a lawsuit against them. The only recourse in that case is to go to mediation on HV's terms and hope your argument is strong enough to persuade the judge to rule in your favor. Again, I'd be real interested in knowing about what happens.
Congratulations on the new job, though! AND the new(ish) car! Things are looking up for you right now, and I hope the ball keeps rolling in your favour!

Date: 2004-08-26 01:46 am (UTC)I used to think it was a decent company until I realized that I was constantly being manipulated by upper management and not receiving wages for all the time I worked. Grrr. Arrghh.

Date: 2004-08-28 03:09 am (UTC)Apparently lots of interestingly famous people come and go quite a lot at Technicolour, but I doubt I'll see any of them (at least for a while) as I'll be in the opposite side of the building from where all the fun happens. But of course I'll keep an eye out. ;-)

Date: 2004-08-26 10:55 am (UTC)You in film industry! Bwhahaha go you!
I want pictures of the shiny shiny car! =)

Date: 2004-08-28 03:08 am (UTC)There will be many pictures of the shinyshiny car, because I'm just so proud of her and want to show off her loveliness. I actually have a desire to keep her clean, how scary is that! *laughs*
All your wishes for me have been realized, for lo, I am now officially in The Biz. Bwahahahahahahahahaha. *smug*

Date: 2004-08-26 03:18 pm (UTC)I can't click on the link, for some reason (it won't work) but it sounds like a cool job with some great potential. So superior to a video store where they don't give you breaks!
New car..........wish I had a car......wish I could drive. Mayhaps, if I go to the US for school, I could get an American license. I don't think you guys have the graduated licensing thing that we have here
Let's hear it for class-action suits! That's what being American is all about! Suing! lol

Date: 2004-08-28 03:04 am (UTC)I fixed the link, so you can visit the ultra kickarse website. Have I mentioned it's the Technicolour, as in 'Filmed in glorious Technicolour'? *beams proudly*
My father's been desperate to sue HV for months, which is quite disturbing, actually. *laughs*
*SNOG*

Date: 2004-08-26 03:37 pm (UTC)Also "YAY" for the new car, though that's an, erm, not ideal way of getting said car (y'alright, mate?). I think Islington/Izzie is a perrrrfect name for the Nevviemobile.
Don't forget the little people when you win (excuse me, are awarded) your million.

Date: 2004-08-28 03:02 am (UTC)I wish I could just call my car the Nevviemobile, but I get weird enough looks for giving it a name as it is. At least Izzy sounds like a proper name. *G*

I thought about Aziraphale, but I decided the car is much too new -- a dusty old Citroen is more Az's style, really. ;-)
