Yesterday I attended an
hp_california meet at Disneyland, which was good fun. I finally met
airemay, and although I think I might have scared her a bit with my mental instability bounceyness, it was wonderful to see her at last. I don't know why she doesn't make more of the fact that she looks exactly like Christina Ricci. A really tall Christina Ricci. (I'm just a wee hobbit! Her brobdignagian proportions frightened me. *giggles*)
Disneyland (sorry, the Disney Resort) is so completely different than the last time I was there. Five years ago California Adventure was just a tent with some design pictures in the car park outside the main park gates, and there was no Downtown Disney. It was a bit overwhelming, to be honest. Also overwhelming was being with people so ensconced in the 'fandom' of Harry Potter, and all the politics and inside jokes that entails. They were all very friendly of course, but I couldn't help feeling rather clueless, and unfortunately my behaviour waxed and waned between mad playfulness and quiet reserve. (Rather too much of the latter, I'm afraid.) And I was feeling ill for most of the time, so I don't think I was exactly a bundle of fun to be around. Ah well, at least I got out of the house for once. *grins* (And next time I will be exciting and fun. Go me!)
I've been trying to avoid ROTK spoilers, but my wandering eye found this picture, which made me go GUHHHHHHHHH^^&$@#^%^&*)!!HYRHJYJKWGG! and drool copiously all over myself. (The white treeeeee!) OMGILOVEHIMSOMUCH.
Hmmmm. This monthly analysis thingy seems to think we Virgos are a rather unpleasant lot.

SEPTEMBER:
Suave and compromising. Careful, cautious and organized. Likes to point out people's mistakes. Likes to criticize. Stubborn. Quiet but able to talk well. Calm and cool. Kind and sympathetic. Concerned and detailed. Loyal but not always honest. Does work well. Very confident (Hahahaha!). Sensitive. Thinking generous. Good memory. Clever and knowledgeable. Loves to look for information. Must control oneself when criticizing. Able to motivate oneself. Understanding. Fun to be around. (Yes!) Secretive. Loves sports, leisure and traveling. Hardly shows emotions. Tends to bottle up feelings. Very choosy, especially in relationships.
This past week has been an excellent one for making new friends, wheee!
achtung_meggy works just down the street from me,
grrgoyl thinks I'm exceedingly cool (how perceptive she is ;-),
myf is an adorable Aussie bibliophile,
belated_fangirl shares alot of my interests and I assume found me through mutual friends, and I met
ladynyks last year at the Neil Gaiman signing at Harrods.
God bless LJ. :)

Are you really glad I came? Because I thought I was a bit (okay, a lot) of a third wheel, who kept annoying you with my lack of fandom knowledge.

Date: 2003-11-10 06:11 pm (UTC)you FINALLY saw that Pippin pic. My dear, I have been drooling over that for weeks now. Was going to make an icon, but I'm afraid the proportions are bad.
Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Oh, and just for shits and giggles, my poor mum thought that Merry's name was "Larry". She couldn't figure out why a Hobbit would be named "Larry"

Date: 2003-11-10 07:17 pm (UTC)Larry?? *snort*
Yes, it's Larry Tookberg, accountant superstar of the East Farththing. *gigglefit* :D
On a similar note -- did you see the 'banned' Family Guy episode 'When you Wish Upon a Weinstien'? I'm rather fond of the line 'Math, my dear boy, is just the lesbian sister of Biology'. Which of course reminded me of you. *grins*

I did understand everything you were saying, it just meant nothing to me. But thank you for trying to include me as much as you could. *hugs*
I didn't mean to worry you -- next time, I will just refrain from making the same mistake of eating just because my body tells me that I'm hungry. *grins*

Date: 2003-11-10 09:06 pm (UTC)Oooo, Disneyland! That sounds so exotically American for a little Antipodean like me. I've never been to one of their parks, but it sounds like fun. Isn't it massively expensive? Perhaps not. Or perhaps you're fantastically wealthy. Yes, that's it.
I too ADORE your Scotsman icon. I love the silly speeded-up bagpipe music they used in that episode. *giggles* Such silliness.
Ahem. Photo. You and Alan. I am now seething with jealousy - look towards the south, can you see the shade of green? Gah!
(er, assuming we're talking about the same Alan, of course *coughcough*)

Date: 2003-11-10 09:42 pm (UTC)Have you considered the possibility that "Elf" modeled their costumes after the same real-life elf village that Rankin/Bass did?

Uhmm...isn't that mine? *quizzical headtilt* ;-)
Rankin/Bass copied? Really? Eeeep.
Are you sure? Well. There goes my arsiness out the window. *laughs*

Date: 2003-11-11 04:07 am (UTC)Re the elves...isn't there just some sort of traditional idea that Father Christmas' elves look like that? Kinda small and...pointy. (Me being a huge expert on elves obviously!) *displays her ignorance* Are those first pictures from a cartoon? They're so cute!

Date: 2003-11-11 09:41 am (UTC)You've never seen Rudolph?? It's a CLASSIC! You really must educate yourself immediately dear. :)
Yes, Santa's elves are supposed to look like that (small with curly shoes and pointy hats), but if you look closely you can see the costumes are an exact copy -- see the different coloured band on the hat? Exactly the same. Cut of the coat, coloured tights matching that of the different colour on the hat? The same.
Maybe I'm just being an arsey Virgo about it, but I'm still annoyed. ;-)
There's a picture of Pippin clutching Merry in Pelanor Fields, and I literally GASPED out lout when I saw it. I hope to god all the wankers who've been saying Pippin is nothing but stupid comic relief will FINALLY shut up and give him the respect he so richly deserves. *loves* :))
