Ahoy hoy!

Yesterday I attended an [livejournal.com profile] hp_california meet at Disneyland, which was good fun. I finally met [livejournal.com profile] airemay, and although I think I might have scared her a bit with my mental instability bounceyness, it was wonderful to see her at last. I don't know why she doesn't make more of the fact that she looks exactly like Christina Ricci. A really tall Christina Ricci. (I'm just a wee hobbit! Her brobdignagian proportions frightened me. *giggles*)
Disneyland (sorry, the Disney Resort) is so completely different than the last time I was there. Five years ago California Adventure was just a tent with some design pictures in the car park outside the main park gates, and there was no Downtown Disney. It was a bit overwhelming, to be honest. Also overwhelming was being with people so ensconced in the 'fandom' of Harry Potter, and all the politics and inside jokes that entails. They were all very friendly of course, but I couldn't help feeling rather clueless, and unfortunately my behaviour waxed and waned between mad playfulness and quiet reserve. (Rather too much of the latter, I'm afraid.) And I was feeling ill for most of the time, so I don't think I was exactly a bundle of fun to be around. Ah well, at least I got out of the house for once. *grins* (And next time I will be exciting and fun. Go me!)

I've been trying to avoid ROTK spoilers, but my wandering eye found this picture, which made me go GUHHHHHHHHH^^&$@#^%^&*)!!HYRHJYJKWGG! and drool copiously all over myself. (The white treeeeee!) OMGILOVEHIMSOMUCH.

Hmmmm. This monthly analysis thingy seems to think we Virgos are a rather unpleasant lot.

From [livejournal.com profile] hjartad's entry.

Pick your month and strike out what doesn't apply:

SEPTEMBER:
Suave and compromising. Careful, cautious and organized. Likes to point out people's mistakes. Likes to criticize. Stubborn. Quiet but able to talk well. Calm and cool. Kind and sympathetic. Concerned and detailed. Loyal but not always honest. Does work well. Very confident (Hahahaha!). Sensitive. Thinking generous. Good memory. Clever and knowledgeable. Loves to look for information. Must control oneself when criticizing. Able to motivate oneself. Understanding. Fun to be around. (Yes!) Secretive. Loves sports, leisure and traveling. Hardly shows emotions. Tends to bottle up feelings. Very choosy, especially in relationships.

This past week has been an excellent one for making new friends, wheee! [livejournal.com profile] achtung_meggy works just down the street from me, [livejournal.com profile] grrgoyl thinks I'm exceedingly cool (how perceptive she is ;-), [livejournal.com profile] myf is an adorable Aussie bibliophile, [livejournal.com profile] belated_fangirl shares alot of my interests and I assume found me through mutual friends, and I met [livejournal.com profile] ladynyks last year at the Neil Gaiman signing at Harrods.
God bless LJ. :)

You weren't that quite. *squishes* Nor did you scare me. I had lots of fun and I can't wait until we meet again! I've never seen the Ricci thing. Odd. Lol.

I hope you didn't feel left out or anything. I know I was glad that you came, and so was everyone else.

We are soo glad you decided to join us. It was obviously that you weren't feeling well, as you kept wandering off on your own. "Where's Nevvie?" should be a new game. And you got a pass with lots of fun people to go with! Yay! Disneyland! Another trip soon, I hope :)

[identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com 2003-11-10 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)

I think I've played the 'Where's Nevvie' game before, with [livejournal.com profile] eyre_lasgalen and [livejournal.com profile] wreibyn -- somehow I'd also lose them (they would, of course, say I wandered off somewhere ;-) no matter how close we were walking together in London. Tee hee.

Are you really glad I came? Because I thought I was a bit (okay, a lot) of a third wheel, who kept annoying you with my lack of fandom knowledge.

pippin in that uniform is exceedingly droolworthy. great photo.

[identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com 2003-11-10 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)

Pippin out of uniform might be even more shagtastic. *giggles* (Oh, who am I kidding -- I want the uniform as much as I want the man. Mmmmmmmmmm. ;-)

So

you FINALLY saw that Pippin pic. My dear, I have been drooling over that for weeks now. Was going to make an icon, but I'm afraid the proportions are bad.

Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Oh, and just for shits and giggles, my poor mum thought that Merry's name was "Larry". She couldn't figure out why a Hobbit would be named "Larry"

[identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com 2003-11-10 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)

Larry?? *snort*

Yes, it's Larry Tookberg, accountant superstar of the East Farththing. *gigglefit* :D

On a similar note -- did you see the 'banned' Family Guy episode 'When you Wish Upon a Weinstien'? I'm rather fond of the line 'Math, my dear boy, is just the lesbian sister of Biology'. Which of course reminded me of you. *grins*

[identity profile] ixchelmala.livejournal.com 2003-11-10 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey there m'dear... my apologies if the fandom crap from my end was too much for you... it's not normally that way. We only wanted to make sure you knew what we kept talking about.

We were all quite worried about you when you got ill... but we figured you knew how to best take care of you:)

[identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com 2003-11-10 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)

I wouldn't have known what you were talking about regardless. ;-)
I did understand everything you were saying, it just meant nothing to me. But thank you for trying to include me as much as you could. *hugs*

I didn't mean to worry you -- next time, I will just refrain from making the same mistake of eating just because my body tells me that I'm hungry. *grins*

[identity profile] myf.livejournal.com 2003-11-10 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
*is adorable Aussie bibliophile* That's going straight on my cv! *hugs*

Oooo, Disneyland! That sounds so exotically American for a little Antipodean like me. I've never been to one of their parks, but it sounds like fun. Isn't it massively expensive? Perhaps not. Or perhaps you're fantastically wealthy. Yes, that's it.

I too ADORE your Scotsman icon. I love the silly speeded-up bagpipe music they used in that episode. *giggles* Such silliness.

Ahem. Photo. You and Alan. I am now seething with jealousy - look towards the south, can you see the shade of green? Gah!

(er, assuming we're talking about the same Alan, of course *coughcough*)

[identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com 2003-11-10 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)

I've met two Alans, but took my picture with only one. But I'm never going to post it, as we both look atrocious. *laughs*

And you are exceedingly adorable. *mwah!* :)

Can I just say that that is quite possibly my favorite Python sketch EVER?

All the more reason to SEX YOU, my dear! *snog!*

[identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com 2003-11-10 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)

And can I just say that because you said 'sketch', instead of 'skit', I want nothing more than to POUNCE you and shag you rotten for the rest of your days. *grins*

Not that I didn't before, mind. ;-)

[identity profile] grrgoyl.livejournal.com 2003-11-10 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Elf has completely STOLEN the look of the Rankin-Bass classic Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

Have you considered the possibility that "Elf" modeled their costumes after the same real-life elf village that Rankin/Bass did?

[identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com 2003-11-10 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)

*stares at your icon*

Uhmm...isn't that mine? *quizzical headtilt* ;-)

Rankin/Bass copied? Really? Eeeep.
Are you sure? Well. There goes my arsiness out the window. *laughs*

Glad you had a good time Nevvie sounds like your having a blast at last (oooh rhyme) anyway can i ask a tiny favour of you, can you prod de orange rat with a message of super Nevvie bouncy ness to cheer him up, He's gone all withdrawn and recluse on us after Radar died :/

His phone is switched off all the time and its almost impossible to contact him, so i was thinking maybe an email from you might cheer him up a bit, as long as you don't mind of course hon.

Glad your having a great time and you met Neil Gaimen you evil women, wish i could have met him. I love the endless

The pictures of Pippin in the Godorian...er...uniform (probably not the right word) are possibly my favourites from any of the films. They're so cool. The Merry in Rohan ones are cool too, but they just make me want to go and rescue him. Wah, this movie is going to make me cry.

Re the elves...isn't there just some sort of traditional idea that Father Christmas' elves look like that? Kinda small and...pointy. (Me being a huge expert on elves obviously!) *displays her ignorance* Are those first pictures from a cartoon? They're so cute!

[identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com 2003-11-11 09:41 am (UTC)(link)

You've never seen Rudolph?? It's a CLASSIC! You really must educate yourself immediately dear. :)

Yes, Santa's elves are supposed to look like that (small with curly shoes and pointy hats), but if you look closely you can see the costumes are an exact copy -- see the different coloured band on the hat? Exactly the same. Cut of the coat, coloured tights matching that of the different colour on the hat? The same.
Maybe I'm just being an arsey Virgo about it, but I'm still annoyed. ;-)

There's a picture of Pippin clutching Merry in Pelanor Fields, and I literally GASPED out lout when I saw it. I hope to god all the wankers who've been saying Pippin is nothing but stupid comic relief will FINALLY shut up and give him the respect he so richly deserves. *loves* :))

Umm, darlink', most of those elf-costume-things were stereotypical elf outfits even before the Rudolph movie...I've got really old fairy tale books with elves that look just like that.

Which is not to say that Rankin-Bass doesn't kick this silly Elf movie's ass. ;)

[identity profile] angelislington.livejournal.com 2003-11-11 10:17 am (UTC)(link)

Nooooooooooooooooooo!

Now my irritation is unjustified. Phoo. :-P

Alas, about seeing the Matrix...I am broke, and can't even afford to sneeze, let alone see a movie. :(

Also, I am super stressed because a very good friend of mine is having surgery early next week. :/

Perhaps another time?

Of course!

Whenever you're able, I'd love to see a film with you. *hugs* :)
