Feb. 11th, 2003 06:31 pmAbsolutely furious about Oscar nominations. Or rather, THE LACK THEREOF.
Can't even talk right now, am so angry, and utterly, utterly disappointed.
Sigh.

I should have known better.
(Yeah, I was suprised alright -- by the total fuckwads of the Academy who obviously don't have anything between the ears.)

Am so, so sad about Howard not being nominated for his beautiful music. So unfair.
And the awards would validate the seriousness of LOTR, and the fantasy genre in general -- it's not just a 'silly fairy story' after all, it's blood, sweat and tears. It's beautiful and it's brilliant. And dammit, it DESERVES to be recognized.
And even that asmatic cow XenArwen can act a ZILLION times better than Renee fucking Zellwigger. *spits on her name*

For the love of Pete, how is a unibrow more impressive than the painstaking recreation of a half-dozen fantasy races? *growls*
Stupid Academy. Well, at least I won't have to bother sitting through the whole ceremony this year...there's no point.

Sometimes I have absolutely no faith in my fellow actors at all. Were they all on drugs this week or WHAT!? *snarls*

other things. Five compared to the thirteen Fellowship snagged is pretty
sad.
And the majority of Oscar viewers that I've known don't give a damn about the tech awards.

Date: 2003-02-11 03:03 pm (UTC)I know they want to wait, but I also know that there will be another film (perhaps a christmas release) that will ultimately steal ROTK's glory, and Peter Jackson will never receive the honours he deserves.

Date: 2003-02-11 02:37 pm (UTC)I think that the various small film industries around the world should gang up with the Lord of the Rings, a few over-looked British and US art films, and all take over Hollywood together. Then they could have an awards ceremony for art films, films-in-languages-other-than-English and fantasy/sci-fi films, and ignore the rest of the rubbish. Damn it, I'd pay money to watch that!! Maybe they could even set up a tv section, and finally give Buffy the plaudits it deserves...
The fact that the Oscars have the patronising "Best Foreign Film" award when the US is only the second biggest film producing country in the world anyway, and when the best cinema at the moment is apparently being made in Iran, is some indication of how silly things are. Peter Jackson's in *very* good company being ignored like this, which I hope is some comfort.
And in addition, I imagine that they're only doing it so that they don't have to be repeating themselves when they shower RotK with plaudits next year.
Nevertheless.... grrrrrr! And *huggggss* to you!
*cuddles*

Date: 2003-02-11 02:59 pm (UTC)Oh, I'm quite sure they've all decided to wait until ROTK to give them any sort of proper recognition. But of course by then there'll be another 'amazing' film that all the critics love and will certainly beat LOTR for the best film Oscar once again. *growls*
It's amazing how everyone (critics I mean) realize how terrific Buffy is, and praise the writing to the skies, but it still gets no respect. Why is everything I love doomed to such a fate? *sighs*

Date: 2003-02-12 12:43 pm (UTC)Can we all say, "cash cow"? Although it is my nasty little pleasure to watch the ceremony and gawk at the gowns. I would NEVER spend the money they spend (even if I had it) but I do so enjoy looking.
I also agree that next year will be the REAL year for LotR. If it doesn't win something serious next year, then I swear that I will never watch the Oscars again. The tradition will die next year if RoTK doesn't get a win for actor, director or film.
You are my witness!

I used to love the Academy Awards show. LOVE it. It was one of the highlights of the year. And now, I loathe them. I am weary of the wrong films winning, and people who truly deserve awards being overlooked.
Rawr.
Don't shoot me but...
Date: 2003-02-12 02:31 pm (UTC)Re: Andy Serkis. I seem to be the only one who thought that Gollum was an appauling cartoon character. I couldn't take notice of the voice, the appearence was so bad. I also see to be the only one who thinks that Andy Sekis could have played that part himself and forget about the CGI. I realise I may be insane but that's my view.
Re: Don't shoot me but...
Date: 2003-02-12 03:16 pm (UTC)I'm not nearly as upset about the acting (we all knew they'd never be nominated) as I am about directing, score, and screenplay. NO reason on earth justifies TTT being left out of these categories. None.
I also think Andy would have been brilliant without the CGI, but I didn't mind Gollum as much as you. I did, however, much prefer the look he originally had in FOTR, with darker skin and gecko-like hands.
Don't worry, you're not insane. At least, not today. ;-)
